Apart from Avril Lavigne? Seriously though, given the quality of the things, I wondered if any well-known players use them in preference to the more costly option.

I've seen clips of Andy Falkous using one when he was in McLusky.

Snooks Eaglin played a Standard Tele from Squier. Sounded fantastic.

I've read many times that Jeff Healey played squiers for many years but I can't find any pictures detailed enough to confirm it. He had a smokin sound though!

Also I met Joanne Shaw Taylor, professional blues artist, and I can confirm she was playing a squier '51 but she had upgraded the pickups to Seymour Duncans. Her sound and playing we're both incredible.

EDIT: sorry neither one of these examples are Teles, but they are squires!

Don't know if he's famous, but Australian hot Tele picker Jedd Hughes used to play an older Squier Tele. He's worked with Patty Loveless, and is currently the lead guitarist backing up Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell on their tour. CS

John Mayall... The body of the guitar received some major surgery, though. OOoops. Wait. It's/was not a Tele, but a Strat!

Isn't there a difference between old american squires and the new ones from China? I don't think you can compare them. At least some of the artists mentioned don't play the China stuff.

Read a great article about his first real guitar was a Squier - and it's on the cover of his first album.

Andy Scott of The Sweet uses a Squier Strat too, with custom pickups. A few years ago he had the neck replaced with a "Thompson" custom one that he'd liked.

I remember seeing Brian James (formerly of the The Damned and then Lords of the New Church) playing a Squier Tele - back in the 80s.
