Just picked up a used "Crafted in Japan" Fender Telecaster Blue Flower. Price was too hard to resist. It needs a setup, buzzing on D string, no big deal.

A previous owner installed a set of Bareknuckle 50s PUs + the seller included the stock Fender Japan pickups as well. He had it listed as a 1994, but after getting it home and checking the serial number, it's showing as a 2008 based on serial number T004324?

Hoping someone here can shed some light on these, wondering where I can find detailed specs as there seems to have been several reissues after the original 1968-69 were first introduced.

The amp is a Chucktronic Session 22. All tube, point-to-point, 1x12 hand made in Canada, based on a Fender Deluxe / Ampeg Rocketverb....

Yep that was me...Seller was motivated and dropped the price by $100 a day after he posted. I came in a bit lower and grabbed it for $700 CAD, (that's about $550 for our US members)....I'm seeing these go for US $800 - $1200 on Reverb.

I wish I knew more about this particular one. The first reissues were labeled Made in Japan, that was changed to Crafted in Japan (not sure when) or was it the other way around - no idea. It's about 7.5 lbs so not sure if body is basswood or alder? The neck is nice, 7.25 radius, not too chunky and not as thin as my American Standard.

Stamp on the bridge plate shows Fender Pat Pending, but newer ones say Fender Pat Pending with serial number...

    S/N: T004324. Ok, so it is indeed a 2008:

    From the Fender site:

In 1997, Fender transitioned to a serial number decal that included the words “Crafted in Japan” above the serial number.

    Crafted in Japan A + 6 digits 1997-1998
    Crafted in Japan O + 6 digits 1997-2000
    Crafted in Japan P + 6 digits 1999-2002
    Crafted in Japan Q + 6 digits 2002-2004
    Crafted in Japan R + 6 digits 2004-2005
    Crafted in Japan S + 6 digits 2006-2008
    Crafted in Japan T + 6 digits 2007-2008

    Nice guitar! Enjoy.
It's indeed a 2007-2008 model (see Fender Japan S/N chart below), right before they switched back from "Crafted in Japan" (1996-2008) to "Made In Japan" designation again (as it was the case prior to 1996-97).

I have one of those (early '90s Made in Japan) and a pink paisley and an Antigua, as well.

Anyone know if a stock Fender ashtray cover will fit the bridge plate on these Japanese Fenders?
