I'm going through my trouble-shooting steps, but am stymied. I'm using a Mac desktop and wireless keyboard and mouse. No probs for a few years. Today, though, I have found that the small button atop the mouse is not working right. Normally, with this button I can scroll vertically and horizontally. Now, though, I can scroll down, but not up. This is true both with Word and Chrome. I futzed with the system preferences mouse options, re-started the computer, and replaced the batteries.

Take a clean piece of paper, turn the mouse over and roll the button around on the paper for about 30 seconds. You'll probably see some gunk and fuzz and dust come out. Try that.

Yep, what he said. Don't be afraid to push hard. May take a minute.

I do the same on mine but with a disinfectant kitchen wipe to fetch out any gunk/sweat - read it on a Mac forum and it works a treat. I've also got a wireless Apple mouse without the ball (basically a tracker pad on a mouse) and it's top.

This is a problem with the "mighty-mouse".

I am always having to clean mine. I usually turn it over and rub the ball on my leg or quickly on a piece of white paper. Yes, don't push too hard or the ball won't roll. You can also carefully use a corner of a piece of paper and run it around the ball to get the gunk out of there.
