So I removed the plastic from the pickguard and the neckplate on my affinity telecaster. But does anyone also remove the plastic on the tuning keys?

I generally only leave the pick guard plastic on until it just gets too raggedy... I don't recall getting a guitar with plastic on the tuning keys.

I decided to take the plastic off the pickguard as I read that over time it could get messy to take off. There is a plastic film that covers the circular part on the back of the tuning pegs.

No, it seals the tone in.

Yup...decided that I was keeping the guitar so off with the plastic...except on the tuning pegs which still have the plastic film on.

I always remove all plastic from everything I buy immediately. I feel compelled to, it’s an uncontrollable urge.

It keeps me from biting my fingernails for a few minutes.

I also take it off meat before grilling. On guitars... life is short. Do we really need to protect everything for the future?

It's only put there to keep finger prints and scratches off new guitars until someone buys it.

Maybe they need to mention in the instructions that it's meant to be removed when purchased.

Save it and sell it on ebay.
Someone might want to upgrade their squier to get Authentic Fender plastic protection wrap tone.

Well, maybe some of the air and some of the water, too.
But, other than that, fine. . .

Got to let the pegs and pickguard breathe. Also I don’t want to miss out on contributing my bit to global plastic pollution.

    TOP TIP, READERS!!

When I buy a used guitar I put adhesive plastic ON the guard, neck plate, and pickups. Then I get to pretend I've got a new guitar when I take it off!!

It's like keeping plastic on the lamp shades and sofas in your home. Maybe past the edge of disgusting! :)

All plastic stays on until the return period has passed. Then it all comes off. When necessary (e.g. on Strats), I pull knobs and pickguard screws, and loosen pots, to get all the plastic off cleanly.

I was given this rather beat up, well used ESP... the neck was broken at the scarf and off the guitar at the pocket, there was missing hardware that my mate patched up with an F trem plate for a stop tail .. you can tell how thrilled I was...

He did a good job gluing the neck back together,,it actually plays ok, now.. just a bit HH dark for my tastes...

first thing I noticed when I checked it over.. was the white plastic was still on the tuners....
