The important point, that each poster has failed to mention, is that the typical Fender model you're comparing to is already well into the "too narrow" territory. In a world where the neck should be wider, top to bottom, instead the guitars on the hooks are coming in narrower and narrower. One day, everything in stock is going to be narrower than you can tolerate. And it will creep up on you, one "hair" at a time. Try out some necks that are a proper 1.72 inches or wider at the nut, and see what the neck's width SHOULD be and never mind measuring a whole bunch of necks that are all too narrow, to start with.
