The black one ties into the mounting rings, knobs, and switch tip without making it too busy. I know you said you bought the blue knobs already, but just think about it.

The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward just taking the guard off (assuming it's not hiding anything). I like that look; I do tend to do this often with archtops:

...and really the finish is too cool looking to hide, I'm thinking.

But I'm really liking the idea of that second set of knobs/ tip I pictured

I like the second set of knobs too. And maybe a pickguard in a matching ivory white? Has anyone said MOP yet?

It's purely aesthetic, just get whatever pleases you. Who cares what a bunch of forumites like?

Let me explain how this works:

I'm at work. I have a new guitar waiting for me at the Post Office.
I would rather make small talk about my new guitar than work. :)
Asking people their opinion about different options is a good way to get them to talk about something.

It's kinda what we do here...

White, ivory, or anodized gold (to match the bridge) with matching pickup covers.

How about a clear one, with a subtle texture on it? (Non-textured may show up scratches too much). The odd thing is, every time I look at the first picture, the more the pg looks right! It's just the knobs that look out of place to me now.

Also a +1 to the anodised gold above. Choices, choices...

Damn! - now the black photoshopped one (with the original knobs) looks right to me!

I mean, really right cos it ties in with the pickup rings and selector tip.

Go naked on pickguard would be my first choice on that body, the my 2nd choice would be single ply white or 3rd and most likely would be 4 play BWB tortoise in the dark brown slight Amber config.
I would also use a larger pickguard than pictured.

    White rings
    White switch tip
Gold or white knobs to match up accordingly

I love blue, but I like to tastefully contrast my hardware, kudos to you for seeing that red thing as a no fly zone.

I have the perfect set of knobs for you if want them, they are black bells from an Agile. Given same rings, switch tip and such. PM if you want me to pay them forward. Have fun.

I'm not a big fan of pickguards on archtops. I'd remove the guard, use the knobs you ordered, then see how the back pickup rings look. If the rings stand out too much from the rest of the guitar, go for a more subtle color. Just my 2 cents.

@Skydog1010 , I really do appreciate that offer, thanks a lot! But I've gonna decided I'm gonna just go commando with the guard, and maybe get those second set of knobs and that tip that I'd pictured. I dunno, I should be able to pick it up tonight, and, we'll see at that point...anyway, thanks again!

Yes, but you wouldn't be able to see through a ply.

This is beautiful for a 3 ply. I think it would look great with just a touch of the red in there too. The original has too bright a red, but that might change in real life circumstance.

I wish I hadn't used up my sheets of celluloid, but they made me money. I imagined making just such a guard for the 295 copy on the way.

Speaking of, do you still have that Epi front & center blowtorch?

    Sure do.

I'm gonna have to take a new photo to include the King and this Starshine
