I thought this thread all was about creative time assassination.
Is that the new, politically correct term for "yelling at clouds"?
"I'll just sit here and drink". I don't drink very much at all anymore but if I have one of those days where I think " If I still acted like I used to I'd go get hammered. I play that song because it's true to the bone.
Like most people his best stuff is great but it's not all his best stuff.
Love me some Merle, but his version of it with Willie was my least favorite version of that song.
But those would have left little margin for uncertainty and thus lacked the plausible room for interpretive ire.
you take that back..or..you're walkin' on the fightin' side of me
You are a reprobate sinner. Go to confession and if you're lucky you'll be given a penance of 300 hail Marys, 200 our fathers, 27 rosaries and 16 novenas.
Merle had a fantastic voice, probably better than Sinatra.
Now go in peace and God bless you - you heathen!
Pancho & Lefty is one of my favorite songs. I absolutely love playing, and singing that song. Awesome chord progression. Even awesomer words.
But it's not Merle's, or Willy's, it's Townes Van Zandt's tune. They made it famous, he just wrote it.
I look at it as more of a Willy tune than a Merle tune anyway.
Love that song.
Well aren't you clever.
And look at all of us dummies who simply try to honestly answer questions posted on the forums. Congrats on your social experiment.
Do you feel better?
Oh get over it. The thread was meant as a bit of a poke at the Jimmy Buffet thread, but also as a real question. I honestly wondered if Merle was indeed disliked by anyone else. Frodebro got the Buffet reference, that was all.
Kelnet: what is it that you don't like about Merle's music?
Fantastic work, then. Hope your question was fully answered to your satisfaction. Pat yourself on the back a few times.
Well, answers are still coming, so I'm not quite satisfied. On the other hand, the "dummy" quota has been now been met.
His voice, the subject matter of most of his songs, and the twang. I really don't like twang.
in addition to the hits:
the bottle let me down
if we make it through december
you take me for granted
the running kind
I'm always on a mountain when I fall
this loneliness is eating me alive
Merle aged perfectly: he stays right with you, all through life
how many other artists do that?
Going to have to rescind the internet license of anybody that thought this was a genuine question. I do admire OP's fearless style.
Next let's do:
5e3 Fender's worst amp?
Butterscotch Barf - am I right!?
That quota was met with post #1.
You may be right.
