Am I the only person who dislikes Merle Haggard's music?

One thing i don't like is the idea that Teles are for country.
I don't play no damn country on my Teles!
Could if my life depended on it though.
    Is Rev Gary Davis country?
I can go that far if somebody meets me there.
    Or maybe some Doc Watson?
    Just not country.
    How 'bout The Band?
Can't we all just get along?

I like some Merle, not all of it. I prefer my country a bit more "upbeat".

I love the Strangers, and I love the hokiness of “Okie”, but I also see why many folks didn't groove to it.

Really? Whatever. Then what do you like? Is there the possibility of common ground?

It's hard to take that question seriously. Of course you knew there were.

I think he is ok. I can't, however, stand that skat-doopy-doo-be-bopping mouth mush at the end of songs. Roger Miller does it too. Geez, just end the song before you feel the need for the sound-salad.

Listen to the last 25 seconds of "Daddy Frank" to know what I mean. Awful.

Oh yes! Country Cabin Jazz! I hear a lot of Charlie Christian in them boys, not to mention the Texas Playboys.

Of course there are. Just like everyone on TDPRI (members & visitors) doesn't play a Telecaster, why would it be a surprise that some would disliked Merle Haggard music? IMHO Merle's voice is a distinctive and captivating one irrespective of the song being performed.

Am I the only person who thinks this thread is more about the negative threads on TDPRI than it is about Haggard or his music?

Back in the early seventies being a long haired teenager in Detroit we would go to this greasy spoon called the Clock after a party. There would always be Buck and Merle and Patsy on the jukebox. We hated it. One day before we left, at about 12:30 at night we put a couple of bucks in the the box and played the flip side to Let it be called You know my name, look up the number by the Beatles. If you don’t know it check it out. We sat around for one playing to see the drunk patrons reactions and then got the hell outta Dodge. I always wondered how many time it played before someone shot the jukebox.

Actually, I couldn't be certain. It's kind of like asking if anybody doesn't like Johnny Cash or Keith Richards.

I caught it as soon as you started the thread, but decided to sit back and watch the reactions for a while. :)
