Somehow I missed this post in my initial fly by.

WOW! I, too, was distracted by all the amps in the background. Not just a bunch of random gear. It's the music room in my mind... You can keep the pointy one, though. Even though I'm not a PRS guy (yet), and don't care for Mr. Santana's music, I've always liked his guitar.

I guess I have some arch tops, where you have Les Pauls... You're making me want a Les Paul again. My Collings CL with Throbaks is pretty great, but it would be nice to have a "real one" again. Still keeping the Collings, though, and aye, there's the rub... :)

My current collection is somewhat arcane. I seem to be drawn to instruments that are out of the ordinary, that are unknown except to a relatively few people. So I’ve kind of developed a knack for finding guitars that are not what you typically see on a stage, that are affordable and yet good quality.

Hohner G-940 - Arbor series acoustic of early '80s Japanese vintage

Breedlove AD25SM - Atlas series dreadnought with soft cutaway, solid Sitka spruce top, solid mahogany back & sides, Fishman electronics
Breedlove Passport Plus C250SBe - Concert with solid Sitka spruce top, Bubinga back & sides

    Wechter NV-5413E - Nashville-tuned parlor

Gretsch G9500 Jim Dandy - parlor

Logan Custom mahogany - solid mahogany body, amber tinted Birdseye maple neck, P-90 neck pup, vintage Tele style bridge pup
Logan Custom “Logo” Thinline - custom cutout ("L" shape, approximating the "L" of the Logan name on the headstock), 3/8" Alder veneers top & back
Logan Custom BSB - solid swamp ash, amber-tinted flamed maple neck, DiMarzio Twang King pups with a 4-way switch
Logan Custom “Firecaster” - made from 81 year old salvaged woods from our house fire 7 years ago (Douglas Fir, Long Leaf Pine), Keystone pups, 5-way switch

I love guitars, I started playing in 1977 and I have kept almost everything I have ever bought. I really don't have "high end" stuff, but I bought a lot of Japanese knock-offs at guitar stores, pawn shops and the recycler back in the day when you could actually find good deals that way. I also worked at Charvel/Jackson for about a year and a half in 1984-85. Here is my current list but I'm not going to go look at all of the model numbers right now.

Last Sunday, I brought a bunch of my pedals into the local music shop, along with a rosewood/carbon-fiber Rainsong parlor guitar to do some horse trading. I went to the acoustic room and played a bunch of guitars, from a $3K Martin OO, to a cutaway Taylor, and a $8K Martin. But there was one guitar that I liked more than any of them. It just seemed to fit me and what I want from an acoustic:

It's punchy and has good note separation and sustain. I reckon it'll get me closer to that Ribot thing I keep chasing.

I've got a white one, a black one, three sunburst ones, a Fireglo one, and a natural spruce one.

I don't count the unplayable one under the sofa that hasn't been out of its case since sometime in the 1970s, but it's sunburst too.
