Yeah, I agree but am not taking it any further. I mentioned this last year in a thread on AGF and unleashed the gates of hell on myself.

This thread's about "Bands you should like, but don't", and I guess nobody should like Nickelback :D

INXS. Whiter than a polar bear in a blizza d during a white paint convention. Even Nile Rogers couldn't give them funk.

I just thought of another one, that I really do think, every time I hear them, "it seems like I should like these guys, but I just don't."

I love the song Draw The Line. I can tolerate a few others, but not a fan and I really hate ALL of their biggest hits.

I'm definitely one of those of a certain age that thought I'd discovered fire when I first heard the Ramones in my teens, but I'm not gonna call on you to be stoned as a blasphemer. I get it. I don't think you *have* to love the Ramones to be a "real punk," I just think it helps! Kidding! (In all honesty, I was and am much more about the Clash.)
I think you make a good argument and I don't think the Ramones would disagree that they were derivative to a degree; just look at all the cover songs They knew where they were coming from.
I am curious about who you consider "true punk bands." In the words of Lina Richman, "Discuss."

I don't get all the nickleback hate.
I'll go ahead and say it.
They are a damn good band.
I wish I was in a band that "sucked" as much as they supposedly do.

    Hate implies caring but still

I think the complaint against them is more toward their songwriting. They're all derivative of each other, and the lyrics seem IMO to pander toward the drunk bro who wants to talk about poontang but hasn't had any since it had him, but again, IMO.

They're making money at it so it's a safe bet the band itself isn't bad.

The Doors - Most overrated trainwreck of all time

Steely Dan - I hate them almost more than I like any other band. The fact that they named their band after a dildo seems appropriate.

I think it's because the thread is for bands that are generally acclaimed (or at least acclaimed by some) but you personally don't like. Most people agree that Nickelback is dreadful. Sure there's an army of dudes in Ed Hardy shirts buying their records, but no one has ever accused them of being acclaimed.

They're silently acclaimed, like you said an "army of dudes" but they've been driven underground.;)
Just like the Barry Manilow followers.

    Grateful Dead.
My wife picked me up a guitar magazine last month and it was 75% Grateful Dead. I was like "oh thanks ! " but I didn't mean it.

"Acclaimed" implies critics or voices that have been found to have "taste." A venue full of dudes doused in axe body spray waiting to see nickelback is the exact opposite of this. "Acclaim" is what separates what is generally accepted as "good" from what is merely observed to be "popular." Armies of people with demonstrably poor taste love the Kardashians too. This does not mean they are "acclaimed."

They are also the furthest thing from underground. They were everywhere. Record companies/marketing companies tried like hell to jam them down the throats of the masses. It was just rejected on a large scale. "Underground" implies that they are underexposed. They are anything but that.

If you like them, that's cool. I'm glad you found something that got your toes tapping. However, I wouldn't read into their lack of inclusion in this thread as meaning they are secretly loved but too uncool for most to cop to in some grand hipster conspiracy. They are simply lacking in acclaim. If you want to argue that they deserve acclaim, that's a different thread.

I'm kinda bummed out that there's 11 pages of negativity with lists of fellow musicians you all don't like. I love to come to this forum for all the positive vibes and good hearted fun.

But with that being said - nothing makes me change the radio station faster than Def Leppard!

Stones. I like some of their songs done by others but they don't do anything for me. Wild Horses by Old and In the way was brilliant. Richards is boring and sloppy, Mick is all ego and their live show put me to sleep. Charlie, however, is a great drummer.

Twangy country music. I love all the genres around it. Bluegrass, Americana, southern country rock, but straight up country, shoot me now. I won't even lower myself to discuss modern country.
