So I cleverly placed the side dots in the ABS binding ahead of time and rough shaped the binding prior to glue up as noted elsewhere. Unfortunately, it seems that I placed the dots too high on the binding and didn't really check that before gluing. Shaved down the binding top edge to find the black dots showing through. So decision time: Leave it (and hate it for eternity) or try to get the binding back off.
Opted for the latter of course. And of course ripped the crap out of the neck trying to remove the binding.
Destroyed it. $100 worth of beautiful birdseye and a freaking crapload of hours. Turned into a worthless piece of dung.

I finished the job nicely as you can see...

    utterly demoralizing

On the plus side. I can tell you that CA glue bonds ABS and wood extremely well.

well, after I completely effed up a 200 year old door once (rehabbing buildings in the newport news area while in school) the old dude who was as gruff as they come put his giant arm on my shoulders and said, 'nobody every learned anything by doing it right, lets go get a beer'

hang in there man! the next one will be better!

For what it is worth, that was beautiful work. Your next one will be even better. Do not give up!

You did the right thing - I really like that design - will look great when you get it re-done and this experience is just a memory.

Sorry brother, but you'll only learn from this and do a killer job next time. For what it's worth, I think your inlay design is very cool, dig it.

    Too soon, too soon! LOL

    Ohhhh.
I was hoping for a different ending, like how the dots into binding edge became a "feature" not a regrettable mistake.

I'm currently one headstock down as well and feel terrible about it.
Hoping the next neck you work on is a happy-ending story.
    Peace - Deeve

Such a shame, but onwards and upwards.

I can’t even imagine what you did to the neck to get it like that?!

I think what we're seeing is the catharsis after deciding it wasn't reparable...

    Sorry it didn't work out the way you'd hoped. As Gerry Rafferty once wrote;

"If you get it wrong, you'll get it right next time".
