Pete never shuts up about his Hullet, so I finally broke down and had him start building me one. He's got all the parts at his place now.

I got this Eminence 12ALP to go with it, from Jim Richter:

I still need a cab for it all to go into.

You're only saying that because it true!

Must be a reason for all that enthusiasm though.

    GG Tweed Deluxe from Finland...

    Cheers from Finland,

I strarted my 5E3 project last summer by buying a big box, which had a lot of NOS-tubes inside... =)

I've always wanted to build my own tube amp and last summer I decided to do it.

The whole project took about a half a year and the amp was ready to rock on March 2009.

The project was very interesting, partly also challenging, but the result was superb. I love the attack!

It has Weber 12A125 speaker, RCA 6V6GTY power tubes, RCA 5Y3 GT rectifier, RCA 12AY7 and Telefunken 12AT7preamp tubes. Telefunken 12AT7 as a gain tube gives the amp a little warmer and softer sound, crunching not too early so, that it's a pleasure to play swing & dixie-style jazz, too...

Here are some pics of my "GG Tweed Deluxe":

    1: The amp inside
2: The back of the amp, the wood is mahogany
3: The front of the amp, with mahogay panels

Good people of the best combo amp ever . . .

. . . need some more info than the official site can give me !

What do you guys know about the hot rodded 5E3 amp, the Nick Greer Underdog Mod-1 ?

    http://www.greeramps.com/amps.html

I love the tone of a cranked 5E3, but want more of that crunchy tone !
    Can the Mod-1 deliver ?
It is my understanding that it is a "hot rodded" 5E3 curcuit.

    " Mod-1 Information
A louder, higher gain version of the Underdog "True 59". It even has more cleans. The Underdog "Mod-1" is based on the same circuit as the Underdog "True 59" but with an evil twist hat will take the old 5E3 style circuit to the next level. This circuit provides the same tube warmth as the Underdog "True 59" but gives an extra kick, moving the UD15 "Mod-1" into more of a harder distortion area as well as giving the player higher, more giggable volume. The "Mod-1" 1-12" combo comes standard with a Celestion G12H30 speaker and a kick in the pants for a mixture of both American and British sounds. Players can easily go from 50's rock and blues sounds, to the sounds of the 60's and 70's Brit rock. This amp is a workhorse.
    "

    Does anyone have one ?
    Tested one ?
    Owned one ?

    All info very welcome !
    ;)

That is such a nice cabinet!

    It's a "Mahoghantweed".

    Good mix.

Are all 5E3 chassis/cabs made to fit with eachother even across brand??
Im getting a lil' dawg deluxe and im wondering if i get a weber 5E3 head cabinet, would i be able to take the chassis out of the combo and put it in the head?

It would be cool to beable to switch from having a 5E3 combo to having a head.

Do any of the 5C3/5E3 variants have enough headroom to play clean with a dynamic small-kit drummer?

I use mine in a band and get all kinds of sounds ranging from semi clean to nasty. It's loud enough for a rehearsal but really needs to be mic'd live.

Welcome to TDPRI. That amp build is very impressive, and a nice idea and workmanship on that cabinet.

I knew my narrow panel retweed was a hot amp but today it started smokin....yikes! Smelled funny too like plastic burnin. I turned it off and had to laugh. Hope it's nothin serious. I've had 2 other blackface Fender amps blow smoke and both times it was grid resistors.

Had the tweed shootout today with the Pre-Smokin mid 50's retweed,Clark/Celly Blue, and 59 Gibson GA6 Lancer. I still think the Lancer is king but the other 2 sure are fine! I think I like the Jensen sound over the Celly Blue in the Clark now too. I need to get a new speaker for the Clark. I asked here before and got a variety of answers. I'm still confused/undecided on what to try.

I stared with a Mission 5E3 built by Bruce at Mission Amps, rather than try and roll my own. Great amp, wish I still had it. Currently I have a Clark Beaufort, though mine doesn't have the same caps as shown in bluesjuke's photo. hmmm...maybe mines the Beaufort Special? Very curious.
Also, I didn't care for the Celestion Blue in mine and have swapped it for a Weber 12A125. 5E3's tend to be mid heavy and the Cele Blue is a mid heavy speaker. I prefer more of a vintage sound without the added heavy mid emphasis of the Cele Blue.

    5E3 pics

Hi all. Here's a 5E3 that I built for my nephew. Weber chassis, Mercury trannies, and a real cool '58 Rola P12N. I did the Paul C voltage divider mod to get a little more clean headroom, but it still can get real hairy.
