Had the black guard off to adjust the pickup a bit, and thought a pic would be interesting of this less-seen perspective-

Hey Pete, thanks for the pic......nice shot....first thing I noticed were the large frets...original?
Any chance you have a round mark from the paint can on the back of the pick guard?

I do have large frets on it (and on all my guitars), I like the way they play. The pick guard is one of the ones with no ring (also no "D" in the neck pocket). Late '53, the only slothead screws are on the neck pickup and selector switch.
All original but the frets, changed to modern wiring, and had to have both pickups rewound. Lindy Fralin did an exceptional job, the neck pickup in particular is killer, gets a bright SRV kinda tone-

I remembered I did this video noodling on it some years back, shows the sound of the pickups nicely, through all that echoplex-

And like the OP's guitar, most of them have been refretted.

See two of the three Brad nail holes, third's probably covered by the bridge. Very illustrative in the 'tanlines' under the pickguard of what 'blonde' Teles really looked like brand new, before the lacquer yellowed. Especially from around '53-54.

Great picture. Allowing for different monitors and smartphone screens, that looks nearly identical to my '59 Custom Shop Esquire and I'd bet if mine was called a blackguard a lot of folks would claim the color was wrong for the early ones.
