Well, I have small hands with short fat fingers, but a vintage Tele is what I want. No better sound than like an old 51 Nocaster or Partscaster.
Was any made in the 50's - 60's, that a guy with my kind of hands can play?
Oh yeah, and max 8 pounds in weight. My back is kinnda weak.

Should I just forget about it, and buy a Jaguar or something?

All late fifties and the vast majority of sixties teles have thin or medium necks,I also have small hands and prefer the fatest necks out there, hand size doesn't really matter when you choose a neck just what feels most comfortable to you.

Jaguars are usually WAY heavier than teles since they have way larger bodies.

Plenty of light teles out there and very few are over eight pounds.

Of course if you build a partscaster you can have EXACTLY what you like.

I thought all 50's and 60's Teles weighted a ton, had huge baseball size necks, and was only for guys with Hendrix hands?
Glad to learn that this is not true.

I have a 1960 Custom Shop Tele Custom Reissue that has an early 60's Oval C shaped neck. By far my favorite neck shape on a guitar. Same shape on my Strat but even more comfortable.

I'm used to the slimmer necks, but when I tried the new 52 reissue, I found that whilst it has a thicker neck, it was surprisingly comfortable to play. Try one.

The only vintage Fender Teles that had really huge necks were the very early non trusrod Nocasters ,the 52-54 ones had fat necks and the 55-58 medium soft v necks after that they all pretty much had medium or thin sized necks...

The real heavy teles were the mid 70s and on ones not the 50s & 60s (though of course there might be some heavy ones there)

Again try a fat neck you might be surprised on how comfy it is even if your hands are small.

Maybe a Japanese tele - tend to have narrow thin necks

What is your budget ... are you looking for a true vintage tele, something from the custom shop or just a vintage speced tele?

Btw I doubt that the current 52ri that you link to is going to make you happy. Huge neck!

I'm pretty sure it has to be a pine body, maple neck.

I've also got small hands and short finger, but I can't play a skinny neck. The fatter the better for me.

I was just puzzled, which one you meant wasn't made anymore. The AV-52?

Now I realise it was the one you recommended that wasn't.

    My mistake! :D
