    It looks like contamination.

When you did the alcohol wipe to remove the amine blush, if any of it snuck down into the bores for the screws as you wiped, each pass with the cloth would pull a bit of the contamination back over the surface.

Did you use a Q-Tip or little "drill bit" of material with DNA to clean out the holes along the way?

    Phil,
I wonder if some bits of waxed shellac got into your stuff at the factory.

We can be assured there was some sort of contamination at any rate.

    What a bummer!

There aren't any holes or screws. I used magnets on the bottom side.

I forgot--what is the material of the truss rod cover? Is it an oily wood? Can you tell if the blistering is only on the top coat, or coming from deeper?

    lol, I knew that:lol: doh!

I can trace contamination problems back to things like recalling when I touched a part between coats without positively clean hands.

My finishing process has almost gotten like working in a clean room as far as prepping myself and the product.

This is simply because of all the cases of fisheyes, "fossils" under the clear coats, etc., and something had to be done.

Blowing up the picture, the biggest blister looks like it might be the decal edge.

Buckeye burl, not oily at all. I haven't seen it in person yet, because he's playing another weekend festival right now, so I don't really know any specifics.

    Is there more than one?

No, just the one, sorry if I alarmed you. I shoulda engaged brain before typing.

I would think a blister that big wouldn't be in the finish. I could be wrong, but I'd look at the decal closely.

Good thing is he can play it while you work on the cover.

    Ah, good.

Yeah, I'm going to look at the decal whenever he brings it over.

I'm definitely glad, if anything, that it's just the truss rod cover.

    Yup. Decal.

I don't know how he even spotted this under the strings...

The hard part is going to be trying to not sand through the epoxy because I really don't want to have to redo that too.

    This looks MUCH better.

I'm re-finishing my build challenge fretboard again, so I figured I'd put a decal on that one's truss rod cover while I'm at it too.

Still spraying. I can't feel the edge of the decal anymore. I can still see it if I hold it at certain angles. Does that ever go away?

    Spraying this too.
