I am not affiliated with Sweetwater at all. Someone here posted a NGD Fender Limited Edition American Vintage '52 Telecaster - Roasted Ash Natural guitar the other day that really caught my eye. I checked and none were available. Was surfing amps and I checked these out again. They have one listed that is supposed to weigh 5 lbs 13 oz...is that even possible? I've never heard of a Tele that weighed less than 6 lbs.

Does it not have a neck or something?

An ash body under three pounds is rare, but not impossible.

Generally speaking, to get a Tele under 6 pounds means using body under three.

I'd look for the secret compartment hidden somewhere under the bridge plate or neck pocket. Seriously though, this is the lightest tele I have heard of. Could it be a typo?

I didn't find the weight on the linked listing, but I suspect it was a typo.
    Call them!
6lbs 13oz sounds right, but it could be an unusually light piece of ash.
I have not heard of a solid ash Tele body under 3 1/2lbs, which is very light for a hard wood.
    Really nice looking Tele!

The Weight is listed right under the Serial number in the upper left corner. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/TeleAV52MRA

What is a normal tele weight?
Not sure if my bathroom scale is accurate or not. But it said mine was 8.4lbs.
    It is my heaviest guitar.

5-13 Sounds light, my Tele-2006 LE 60th Anniversary is just over 6-1/2 as is my 13 Strat. Anything between 6-1/2 and 7-1/2 works really well for me with weight, feel and balance.

They can go over 9 I had a 73 for some time that was over 10.

I do think 5-13 is possible though. Ive seen a CS Tele a few years back in metal flake silver very very light and perhaps at that 6 mark.

Apparently 'balsa' is a tone-wood now.

I got an American Special body, loaded, on Ebay. Stratophere was selling one at 7 lbs, seriously, 7 lbs loaded. I passed, and found another seller that had a body for 5 lbs. With the Musikraft, it's now possibly my favorite guitar and very light....so happy....I have no desire to be dealing with heavy guitars...

Based on 3lbs being what all the other parts generally weigh, the body would have to weigh 2lbs 13oz.
There are woods used for bodies that easily weigh that little, like paulownia and some varieties of pine, but swamp ash is just not that light AFAIK.
But stranger things have happened, call them!!!

I just looked through the warmoth in stock extra light roasted swamp ash bodies and they show 32 right now, with the lightest of them weighing 3lbs 4oz, which is the lightest I've seen, suggesting that Fender is correct in saying that roasting makes the wood lighter. Still almost a half pound heavier than the Fender in question though.

Maybe Fender has switched the heavy knobs to aluminum, hollowed out the neck like Rev BFG, and, uh, sorry that's all I've got.

My local shop had a CS Muddy Waters Tele that was under 6lbs. Other than that one I haven't come across one that light either (with a solid body). Willie's has a 1960 refin that is right at 6lb too.

I would guess that is not solid and that there are hollow pockets in there.

Assuming roasting makes wood lighter, the neck is also roasted. How much lighter could that make it though?
