Been quiet here of late and I have been trying to get some decent pics of the 3 Blackguards I have shown you guys here in the new Vintage Forum...Getting better results as I go, so I thought i'd post some of these group shots, as they tend to show them as they actually look. Right Colour etc etc...Hope you Cowboys like 'em!

Man, the bodies of the first two look almost identical with color and wear patterns and such. I like that you have the option of light/medium/heavy fretboard wear, it's good to have a selection

Just for interests sake. From the top, the Serial Numbers and dates are : 2920 / March 54, 2923 / March 54 and 4292 / April 54. To answer the question, I can't really say which one I like the best, but the one I tend to grab and play gigs or work stuff out on with is the bottom one, which I have had since 1980. The others are just as good I guess, but you know the deal, you get used to and comfortable with something.
These era "Blackguards" are a very evolved guitar, very consistent, they seemed to have it all worked out by then, there are no surprises with Neck Shapes, they are just a really great Necks, neither big nor small, with slight differences in shape, soft V to almost nonexistent V. End of a great era though as 1954 is a transitional year, which sees big changes in the guitar. Plastic Whiteguards, with a slightly lighter Blond finish, Neckplate Serial Numbers, Decal Placement, Stringtree type etc, which sets standard until the end of the decade.

    Thanks Terry .... Interesting

I can't believe the serial numbers only 3 apart ! did you buy the guitar because of that or did it just work out that way ?

Same March production 3 numbers or 2 guitars apart. Very unusual and yes it did have a part in it! But the originality, condition and price etc were the big clinchers. They weren't cheap of course, but reasonably priced enough to be affordable with some "sideswiping" trading etc...Be great to know if 2921 and 2922 are out there still! Glad you like them!

I've heard Terry in his shop playing a '54- unreal through a 65 Princeton. He is an authority on this era , and indeed all, vintage Teles. I have a lot of respect for the guy.
