Living between Buffalo and Syracuse for 95% of my life, I've found that snow becomes much less of a hassle when you don't have to drive to work in it. I'll take cold over heat and humidity anytime. Spring, when it happens, is something to enjoy, as well as the Fall. That looks like a nice place there, John!

We drove the North Shore of Lake Superior and saw some houses similar to that one. Even that far south the winters can be pretty brutal...but if you have a good 4wd, a good snowblower, the ability to burn wood, a good guitar and a good woman...you've arrived in Heaven!

Congrats on a beautiful home, John!

I never minded the snow. I never even minded driving in it.

But I just need more, better light in Winter. I envy those of you who can tolerate such long days of so little light.

We'd go up to Parry Sound, on Georgian Bay (on Lake Huron). It was great. Heat ain't a problem when there's cold water all around you.

    Nope.

Even though we live in the state some Canucks call “southern Ontario“, we have some surprisingly light winters (so much of our weather is moderated by the lakes) but I definitely know I’m old because all I crave now is 70-90 degrees and regular sunshine.

I don’t want hygge or comfy fires or warm slippers or 8 face cords of wood or a mug of cocoa or any of that .

Shorts. 12 months of the year.

    That’s all I want.

The OP’s place looks great, I love Ontario (we’re actually north of it ;)) but for myself ?

I’m done with sweaters and Subaru’s...

Congrats! That is a fantastic looking home. I would be the Fishing King at a place like that.

We bought our retirement home in 2014 and have been renovating since then. 249 days to go (we are retiring Dec. 31) and the damn thing is still not finished. Needs the guest bathroom done, a roof and then a garage tear-down and build-new. Now if I could just get the contractor to call me back!

The southern most tip of Ontario, Point Pelee, is the same latitude as northern California. It's a wild and crazy province!!

I just dug my tackle box and poles out of storage, and just bought a fishing license for the first time in 20 years.

Here's a picture of my new shop taken mid February. I'm already planning the first guitar I'm going to build in there.

Are there types of wood from that area that would be good for a guitar?

I figger it's because it's a cultural indicator, not a geographic one. Amirite?

Yeah, maybe it's like Western Canada being everything west of Toronto. Everything north of Toronto is Northern Ontario.

When I lived in NY it seemed that everywhere north of Harlem was "upstate".

I am seriously jealous. I'll have to walk 3 blocks in my subdivision to get to the intracoastal waterway. 3 miles to the Atlantic. I'll be fishing...but it will be nothing like what you got.
