Jack, the center burst was done with Minwax stain. I conditioned the wood with Minwax conditioner first. Then I used mineral spirits to thin it down in the center. So this had a kind of bleaching effect in the burst area.

Once I was done with that I used Re Ranch Fender neck amber in the center to yellow it a bit. Then I used Black gloss on the outside to get the burst dark area.

Once all of that was to my liking and it did take a few attempts. In the above picture you can see I literally wiped it all off with mineral spirits and restarted after the first attempt. When I was happy with burst effect I then used the RR Fender amber to spray the final coats.

It really was an experiment using so many different products but to tell you the truth it has held up well and still looks really nice.

    Ed,

Pine seems to be everywhere I look here in the "Pine Tree State" I have yet to build a Pinecaster from native Pine though. I do have some very nice planks drying in a homemade kiln. That will be some special builds!

Hello Marty! I agree Bruce does have himself a fine little Pine there! I like the Rik rout too. Now that wouldn't be from Pinemart would it?? :D

    Hey Arlo,
No, that isn't a pinemart body. I like the little touch or Ric too.
