    Hi All!

So........ The Cedar and Pine tele is nearing completion.

As @guitarbuilder knows, it's mostly a collection of mistakes.

That means it's time to start on my next build.

I bought the ash from a proper wood store back in California. And the maple was bought from home depot.

I haven't figured out the fretboard yet. I'll either re-saw some of the maple I have around or buy a blank. Time will tell.

I started by flattening the ash board a little. I wanted a nice face on each side to reference against on the jointer.

next came cutting it in half and admiring the grain. I think this is going to end up looking amazing!

The light outside was amazing before the rain started...

Time to admire the maple and the dry clamp test.

After that I glued it up and watched the rain...

Hopefully I can get more done tomorrow.

Well... I got a fair bit done this weekend.

Not as much as I wanted. But a bit.

After spending way too much time thinking about how I could use the router to cut out the body I gave in. And used the bandsaw like a normal person would.

After that I ran it through the planer to flatten it out.

After that it was template time.

I did all of the pickup cavity routes using the 1/4 x 1/4 bit. I love that thing. It makes the process so smooth.

I used the 1/2" pattern bit in the Colt router to do the first half of the body.

the rest of the body routing was done in the table with the bottom barring bit.

And I cleaned up the edges on the ross. you can see in the previous post that the colt was a bit tippy.

Hmm. I guess I didn't take any pictures of it but the round over was done with an 1/8 bit.

Now for the fun stuff! I've decided to do the fingerboard out of black palm!

it seems reasonable enough to work with. But it does make some nasty little splinter.

Anyhow I think this one is going to look great if I can make it work.

Next came the truss rod route...

    It was crazy hot today.

I decided to do the peghead thickness next...

I feel like this was my first real success using the bandsaw in a resaw method. Unfortunately the headstock ended up a little thin.

I'll have to use a washer to get the tuner bushings to fit correctly I think. Oh well. everything else has gone very well.

I super glue taped the head stock piece back on so I could cutout the neck on the bandsaw.

After that came cutting out the neck and using the router to do the neck thing.

Next up came the fretboard radius.

I started by taping the fretboard to my workbench and trying to do it by hand... no way. I'm not patient enough.

I need to just build a radius jig for my palm router. But I didn't want to spend the rest of the day working on that.

I got permission from my girlfriend to do some of the work with the palm sander... but that was too slow too.

so I took the thing to the ROSS.

It actually worked rather well. I ended up with a very organic feeling radius that's somewhere between 13" and 14" and is ever so slightly asymmetric.

I think it'll feel great under hand.

Nice work! I would recommend making copies of your templates though, to keep the originals longer :)

    That's good advice!

I need to set aside some time for jig and template making.

I've already ruined a number of templates

  19. Love the black palm! New wood to me.

Nice build progress! Looking forward to the finished product. Your 2nd build looks like a vetern builder

Hey PingGuo. When you use the Spindle sander to clean up the neck what grit sand paper are you using?
And how do you keep from over sanding?
