One guy on the board, I’ll have to find out who it was but I believe it is has a bit of a Strat collection and I think he likes his player better than his American Pro and his Classic Player 60’s. I think he’s particularly happy with the stock pickups. They’re AlNiCo so I probably wouldn’t be swapping them out.

It was @DougM I’m pretty sure who found he liked the Player Strat pickups and the playability of it better than his Pro and CP60’s.

I had a Classic Player 60's and the guitar workmanship was top-notch. Flawless. The pickup set sounded fine, except for the bridge which was (to my ears) weak and trebly. I replaced that one with something a bit more overwound, but left the middle and neck pickups in place.

Also, the middle was not hum-cancelling, but that was not a problem for me.

I have a 2018 MIM player Strat. The pickups sound really nice. No complaints, whatsoever. Clear, articulate, bell like tone. It’s my #1

Lions & Tigers oh Mi !
    .

Just because pickups have Alnico in them doesn't mean they are great sounding. I've had both great and poor sounding pickups from both Alnico and Ceramic. Part of what can make it work is pickup height setup and part of it are the pots and caps -- pickups swaps in isolation of these factors result in multiple pickup swaps.

Fender's move to Alnico in the Player Series was a great move on their part. Having ceramic magnets in the prior MIMs just caused buyers who feared ceramic fits of complaints. Now they don't need to complain so much. ... My most frequently played Strat right now is a MIM with dual bar ceramic pickups, oh the internet will certainly explode ;)

Whatever Strat you get, I'd suggest getting a classic SSS style -- the Internet convinced me I needed the versatility of HSS and I soon pined for the missing tones of a classic SSS. Especially since I have other HH guitars it ended up being redundant. So get a classic SSS.

That's all very interesting, but without pictures of the actual guitar, just a buncha numbers, Jimma! Right?

    It's a mad world,yeah?

I'm new to strats and read about the shrink wrap fix for wobbly whammy bar so sent for shrink wrap and fixed it up. Result? Whammy bar looks like it's been on a course of Viagra and is touch sensitive to the extreme........guess what? i actually like the little play in the bar and have resorted to original state.....well, you live and learn :)

    As you were

My Classic Player needed more springs to calm down it's youthful enthusiasm to move if a bluebottle flew past...

This is true. I did miss the single tones and the parallel tones with my H/H Strats. A S/S/S with series/parallel gets you all the tones you need.
