2011 mim tele should serial number be on face of headstock?

mnutz is correct. Fender started putting the serial number on the rear of the headstock in 2009; however, there IS a caveat. On certain MIM Standard FSR's, e.g., the ash-bodied Tele, with tortoise shell pickguard and alnico Tex-Mex pickups, continued to have the serial number on the front of the headstock.

Serial number MX11072588 comes up as a Standard Telecaster in Midnight Wine, completed 01/2007.

Weird how it looks like 2011 on the neck and body?

This is why I don't trust the online serial number finder on Fender's website and stick with the old-fashioned "email them the serial number" method when I want to have a serial number checked out. That information just doesn't add up at all.

Well fender came through!!! All makes sense now.

This is an odd one. The instrument was originally built and serialized in 2007 but it was refurbished at the factory in Ensenada around 2011 and did get a new neck, hence the new serial number and date stamps.

au contraire, mon frère; that there is an elegant example of flat sawn. Not to be argumentative, strictly to keep the record straight. If it were quarter sawn, the grain would be running at a right angle to the frets. Parallel to the frets is flat sawn. Not a big deal either way for most practical purposes.

    First FULL year, yes.

The transition was in the mid to late segment of the 2008 model year. All the dark blue 2008s were the old style and possibly that Midnight Wine. But any Lake Placid Blue 2008 will be the new style with the better fret finishing, etc.

You're right but I think a flat sawn neck of this sort, is better. The cut of the wood is most stable against motion side to side, and then the truss rod controls any motion at right angles to that stability. Perfect - anything else is almost as good.

Very interesting - I would keep that email from them handy should you ever sell this one in case anyone else questions the serial number.
