I'll check in the morning but mine has the 8417 power tubes and I believe 4 12ax7's?
Ok mine has a pair of 8417's, three 12ax7"s and a 7247. The 12ax7's are original Guild branded tubes made in Holland
Very sanitary wiring.
I thought that might be the case. Most of the ones I've seen are fairly simple.
The "project" one I'm slowly working through isn't here at the moment, but it has split chassis (separate preamp and power amp) with (as I recall) 2 x 6550, 1x 12AX7, 1 x 12AU7, 1 x 7199 & 1 x 0A2 in the power amp and one each 6GF7, 12DW7 & 12AX7 in the preamp. Plus one power and one signal umbilical connecting the chassis with wiring split between terminal strips and true point-to point. No known schematic making it great fun.
The initial reaction of a couple tech buddies upon first looking at it was "know anyone with a boat that's lacking an anchor?"
So, how does it sound?
I did some more research today that showed a remote chance Hagstrom might have had a hand in this?
Any opinions ?
I haven't received it yet, it's going to the shop before I can fire it up.
I didn't know any of the Thunderbass's used that two section design.
there are a few others around but none with 9 tubes.
I have a sneaking decision a Western importer may have lobbied a name change to Guyatone. I worked on an early 70's Twin Reverb clone that looked dead-on the same sort of PCB. And I've seen a small Noval-pin EL84ish powertube amp combo with knobs and multiple controls that look like those. IIRC it used oddball preamp tubes and possibly a 6BM8 somewhere.
The orderliness of all the wiring reminds me of my West German Klemt. I've seen the inside of a few amps and they usually don't look this precise. Whoever built this appeared to have high standards.
Didn't Julie Andrews play one in the Sound of Music?
I should have it Tuesday and then it's headed to Skip Simmons. I'm hoping he recognizes something in the construction
Right now I'm leaning Guild
