    DISCLAIMER:
If you are super traditional, can't stand to see strange combos of guitars combined or can't appreciate the beauty in all guitars look away now!

I have been planing a guitar project for about a year and now it is time to start. I love Les Paul's but I don't like the feel when I play them for some reason. I really, really like pointy guitars like the V, Explorer, Mockingbird, Warlock, etc. I also really like combo guitars like the Les Paul Telecaster, mockingbird telecaster and the Flying V standard which is a Les Paul and V mixed together.
Imagine that Billy Gibbons, Jimi Hendrix and Lita Ford's guitars had a baby. This will be that baby.

So my plan is to make a 1959 Les Paul in as many details as I can but shape it like an upside down warlock. I started with a stew Mac plan and since it isn't that accurate especially for the fretboard and neck will use it to get a general idea. ImageUploadedByTDPRI1429075678.503107.jpg
I was originally going to do a non reverse that is why the double outline but the purple is it even though it is hard to tell the difference. The reason I flipped the body besides being cool is the diamond upper rear horn has more area to fit the control cavity comfortably.

All the bells and whistles that I can afford too the mahogany will be ordered in about a week and the parts as I can afford as I go.

The colors I will shoot for will be something like either of these. ImageUploadedByTDPRI1429076303.605949.jpg

I really like the 59' Paul unfaded as if from the factory.

I am going do a sort of German carve bevel around the edge but less of a defined edge at the top and a little shelf around the edge for the binding to look right. If I put binding without it and just beveled the edge it would look too big. Here is the bit I am ordering. ImageUploadedByTDPRI1429076596.680881.jpg
It is a drawer size raised panel bit with straight edge. Something kind of like this without the to being so pronounced. ImageUploadedByTDPRI1429076865.541220.jpg ImageUploadedByTDPRI1429076882.138778.jpg
But this style without the top raised portion. ImageUploadedByTDPRI1429076945.810153.jpg

Or this, but I will leave all of the routing as sharp as possible I don't want it to look like the arch top B.C. Rich which is cool but not the look I want.

This is my maple to use for an unbookmatched top it is really nice and will look fantastic.
I really like doing everything myself but have less time these days as well as less space to keep stuff. Instead of getting or making a routing template for the inlays, getting a dremmel router stand, buying Royaltie binding, Italian fret markers, tortoise dots and the rest that goes with it I saved some time by buying a pre made fretboard from another Luther. It is Brazilian and the frets are fish glued in and made to the Tom Bartlett plans. ImageUploadedByTDPRI1429077822.970979.jpg .

Perhaps you could do a half-inverted thing, where you flipped the rear part of the body bot not the cutouts? Looks like you're gonna limit your access to the upper frets doing a full flip.
Curious to see how it turns out though.

I tried that too a couple of ways but didn't like the results. What I am going to do is extend what is now the top horn about 1/4" and add about 1/2" to the inside curve toward the body thickening it a hair. I just need enough room to roundover the back and fit the switch back plate. Thanks for the input and I hope it turns out well thanks for checking it out.

I love it! I've often thought about a very "formal" warlock - sunburst, binding, white pick guard, the works. Like an Albert King/Kerry King mashup.

Yeah there just aren't. I guess B.C. Rich isn't into sunburst. I have an American handcrafted warlock that is black with white binding but it is flat across the top and I want a beveled edge. I like the Albert king Kerry king mashup that is a great statement!

A few of the design concerns. I will extend the top horn to here maybe even a little more. If I have to I will cut two edges off the switch cover and I am also bringing the switch toward the pickup from where it is drawn in pencil. ImageUploadedByTDPRI1429162624.651907.jpg
Another concern is where the bevel has to end because the pickup ring will come close to the edge. I will blend the bevel by hand. ImageUploadedByTDPRI1429162730.826289.jpg

I will have to move the electronics cavity forward about a 1/4" so it isn't so close to the edge. ImageUploadedByTDPRI1429162896.568983.jpg I will have to be careful where the bevel comes in here too.

ImageUploadedByTDPRI1429163131.275033.jpg this is my idea for the pick guard a little scooped out near the pickup a slight arc along the edge and a cut off tip to give a point that is similar to the points on the back of the guitar. ImageUploadedByTDPRI1429163400.076718.jpg something like the Johnny A guitar (which I absolutely love) pick guard would work too.

Here are some photos of the B.C. Rich carved top. I want there to be more of a sharp edge to the carving.

This looks like a great project. I will definitely follow your progress, should be an interesting guitar when finished. Never really thought of a warlock in burst, good luck.

Thank you. One of my big motivations was wanting a burst but it seems that there are a whole lot of them being made out there. I want mine to be different. Thanks for the support!
