Hi all. Can anyone tell me what material the late 50's string ferrules (body) were made out of - steel or brass?

They were all nickel plated, I believe.

Perhaps someone here has a 1959 or 60 tele (or esquire) that could put a magnet to them? Steel should be magnetic, but brass would not. ;)

    Thanks.

Hi Sean, they are steel. A magnet definitely sticks to them. And they look nickel plated to me.

I have heard there were brass ferrules as well in the '50s. Never seen them however so maybe it is a fable?
