    Hi again...

This build is of a feather weight mid 50's strat. I'm going to build 2 necks for this guitar, one will be a 54 style plain maple, and the second is a soft V fat boat neck heavily flamed. Color might be a 1 tone burst (Yes... 1 tone... like on early 54 strats which didn't have a yellow in the middle... just brown around the edges)or blonde. we'll see...

Neck maple blanks... from my old growth stock. I will select the *one* after cutting them to correct dimension and give them the tunning forks test
    [IMG]

Roughly shaped on the band saw and thinned down to 1"

This is the one!!! bright as bright can be, and a great match to a lightweight soft swamp ash.

and neck shape is routed flush on the router table with an upward spiral bit

    Trussrod channel is routed
    [IMG]

Headstock roughly thinned and truss rod holes drilled (Sorry, forgot to take the shots but it's the same like in my other posted builds...)

Truss rod is bent and cut to length (and checked against the blue print)

One neck down one neck to go.... but I feel like cutting the body now...

Templates templates..... quite a few for a Strat...

Body blank was selected. It's a classic grained strat body with a round figured upper part and straight bottom. Very light piece of Swamp Ash.

Body outer line is located and penciled
    [IMG]

Band sawed right outside the line
    [IMG]

    Looking good

    Transitions are done
    [IMG]

Back relief contour is sanded on the 15" sanding wheel
    [IMG]

and arm rest relief on the belt sander table (just like in the old days...) - I love this stage...

I'm cutting those deep... 54/5 bodies were like that deep deep contours and lots of hand sanding and smoothing (they couldn't afford this in 56 when production numbers got higher...)

I looking at this thread wondering when I can move my family of 5 into a shanty behind your home and be your apprentice :)

They say a picture is worth a thousand words...and I believe this thread has spoke volumes already!

Bridge mounting holes drilled to correct depth
    [IMG]

Bridge is tested against the holes. All is OK
    [IMG]

I usually use Gotoh tuners and bridges. Correct materials and measures without BS butique price tag...

Woodwork is pretty much done. A little sanding before finishing and tuner holes and that's it.
