For what it's worth, my mahogany Tele (it's solid mahogany throughout, but has a flamed veneer on top) weighs about the same as my alder-bodied Strat. I haven't felt any need to chamber it at all.

    Thank you again DrASATele,
As long as I have the look I want on the front, I'm thinking on the back the sky is the limit.

I though some visuals might help . . . This is how I do it when I am capping the top which would be the same from the back minus the wiring channel... I hog out some stuff with fostner bits . . . IMG_4587.JPG

I could just cap it and leave the inside as is (which I probably should have done with this one because after I cleaned it up with the router and capped it. It won't show up when I weigh it on the scale, too light)
    IMG_4589.JPG

With yours you can hog out the material and cap the whole back or option 2 thin out the wings, hog out some material then just cap the wings back up to normal size.
I think option 2 might be better that way, so you are not messing with the back of the neck pocket by thinning it out to add the cap or making it to thick by adding one. Option 2 is just about the wings.

id love to see a pic of this. My gal saw this post and said: and you want to have kids at your age? i just KNOW you are going to make ME carry him.

my reply(which has already landed me on the couch) well, for the next 9 months anyways... if you arent smart enough to get a stroller after that.... have you seen Ol' Yeller?

It's worth a night on the couch for a zing like that!

    o.k. Here you go . . . Pre-string and set up . . . about 5 years ago . . . LittleT.jpg

The Tele control plate isn't screwed in yet, that's why it's cockeyed.
    LittleT2.jpg

It went through 1 last transformation last year that I haven't taken a pic of yet. I actually sanded back the top so it was back to that deep purple with less red in it and then refinished it in lacquer. This thing would seriously kill or injure someone if dropped on them.

Thanks. My uncle who taught me how to use all the tools did the re-finish on the top because he also needed to correct the neck pocket depth which was a touc to shallow. I made him keep the red on the back. The color was kind of a happy accident I had wiped it on some scraps working on another body. Found the scrap when I began finishing and the purple heart wood just made the color stand. In all fairness, he said routing the pocket deeper kind of screwed up the original finish. I'll see if I can get a pic up of the current look.

    The Smugglers Cut

For the mock up, I had to cut neck pocket, trim pickup cavity, trim the control cavity and a trim of the pick guard,
this puts me to 6.8 Lbs. 4 Lbs is a long way off.
My multi pointed plans start with the '67 Smugglers Rout. I hope its worth a pound but most likely not.

I really thought this body would be mildy easier being one piece but its not the case.

    Drill some holes.

    DSC_0091.JPG

Rout some (8) straight lines between drill holes with bearing bit and this board as a jig.

    DSC_0092.JPG
Free hand the rest and then set about lowering the floor of the chamber.

!.25 inches deep on the sides and 1 inch deep in the middle
Alright for those Non math wizards in the bunch, that was worth about half a pound (.67 Lbs)

    DSC_0099.JPG

Next a belly cut which should be worth about .2
I made it as big as I could and still get along with the front routs.

    DSC_0101.JPG

    This is so fun:p:D:lol:

6.07 Was hoping for more, only got .09. Lacking the ability to calculate volume and weight with my eyeballs I was way off on my guesstimation. I didn't really want the forearm cut but maybe a little more will get me to 6.0

Draw a line and grind it again.

    DSC_0104.JPG DSC_0105.JPG

Still not there 6.03. It was prettier when the cut was smaller.
Not so happy with it now. Maybe shouldn't of done that.

    I'm trying, I'm trying!

This router bit with no bearing and just go for it!

    DSC_0106.JPG DSC_0107.JPG DSC_0108.JPG DSC_0109.JPG
Around the control cavity and bridge pocket, the upper most side of smugglers cut and a little in the lower side by control cavity.
    All that and only 5.91.:((.12)
Running out of ideas now except fore arm cut which would only be worth .11 anyway.
That .11 is worth it for the look on the front.

Darn 6 pound boat anchor anyway.

Racked my brain try to think how to get more weight off and I'm onto the stupid ideas now.

Les Paul style switch cavity but didn't drill to the front, yet...

Battery box for I can put a Baggs active EQ/preamp on board.
I know that i'll probably settle for an Arctic booster instead (price).

    DSC_0121.JPG
I know! I could hog out a cavity and just cover it with some cheesy plastic.
Oh wait I just did that.
    5.64

    DSC_0123.JPG
Might have gone a bit far with these routes, but I'm getting close to 5 and a half pounds!
I didn't do the forearm cut or drill random holes.
