Pros: tone, tone, neck
Cons: a bit heavy

I bought this Guild D25 new in 1972. It has a mahogany top, a cherry finish (which is a deep reddish-gold on this wood), and an arched back. It has tone to die for; powerful, rich, particularly strong on the high strings. It is very responsive to a strong picking attack. Nothing fancy; dot markers and three-on-a-side open tuners. Everything works fine, it has never given me trouble, except for the tuners gradually stiffening. I replaced them with Grovers. Pretty good durability for a 31-year old acoustic instrument, which I have never taken any special care of (except to keep it from getting hot). I'd look for another just like it if replacement was necessary.

Pros: Tone!
Cons: nothing

Mine's a '92 made in Westerly, RI. I've had it a few months now. These are still ridiculously undervalued guitars.... mahogany back/sides & spruce top. No frills or snazzy appointments. A bit heavy, but not in a negative way. Deep, rich and versatile tone. Great playability. This guitar can boom, but it also sounds great when I player lighter sounding finger picking stuff.

These were made in Westerly from the early 70's until the end of the 90's. I'd strongly recommend one from some point within that era- they were really built right in Westerly, and I'm happier and happier with mine all the time.
