Richard Thompson's new, independently produced cd, "The Old Kit Bag", is yet another outstanding addition to his incredible catalog. If you had issues with his Mitchell Froom-produced cds, this is a return to cleaner, simpler production values and arrangements. Once again, Thompson's band is stellar and his singing, songwriting, and playing (electric & acoustic guitars, dulcimer, harmonium) are of a standard that only he seems to be able to achieve.
If you've never delved into his work, and especially if you're looking for a "different" sound, you owe it to yourself to give this a listen. You'll only wonder how Capitol Records could "fire" him (along with John Hiatt, in a month's period). Bought mine, on sale, at Borders.
------------------------------ How can you be two places at once when you're really nowhere at all?
