Bought this 10-inch speaker here on the TDPRI garage sale to replace the stock speaker in my Mesa Boogie Subway Rocket. The Rocket is a great amp, but it was always a tad on the harsh and beamy side. Clean tones would be a bit ice-picky, and the higher-gain side of the amp was just unnaturally mid-range and treble-heavy.
Popped the stock Mesa Boogie Black Shadow out of the amp and wired up the Copperhead, which true to its name seems to have a copper-colored magnet head. It is part of Eminence's American-sounding, Jensen-like Patriot line. Even before the amp was bolted into the cabinet and we tested the signal to make sure the connection was solid, the speaker sounded better than the original. Once everything was put back together, it sounded like I had a new amp.
Clean tones are solid, rich and full. At first I was tempted to roll the treble control up, but that was just because some of the higher tonal register had been rolled off by the speaker swap. The overall tone is much tighter and better-defined, and even the Boogie's high gain section (which is REALLY OVER THE TOP HIGH GAIN) is mellowed out quite a bit. All tones are a lot more usable.
Tested with my Gibson ES-135, I am getting warm, rich vintage clean tones and gain tones that sound a little less 1980s than what they did before. Can get credible B.B.-style Chicago blues tones, sweet, singing Santana-like sustain (without the sharp edges the amp had before) warm jazz tones. All around a great upgrade.
