Description: I paid $35 at Guitar Center, Austin - one year ago. I rate it at 9.5 overall.

This is such a fun book / CD combination by Arlen Roth, the great Nashville picker who played with John Prine, Art Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, Danny Gatton, and lots of others. He is also a very accomplished guitar instructor. Arlen started the "Hot Licks" video series which are nop-notch quality.

"Masters of the Telecaster" is a book about Telecaster history that casts a wide net about the influence of the Tele on Blues, Country, R&B, and Rock. It is not a detailed historical text, though. It is mostly a book for people who don't already know everything about the Telecaster and American music history. It is a good tool for young people to catch up with pickers who have played a Telecaster for many years and decades. Several older guys have told me that they wish they had this kind of help when they were younger.

There is a lot of info on history, players, types of Teles, photos of Teles, and instructional playing material.

It has everything from fundamental "foundation techniques" all the way up to highly complex pedal steel style parts and licks of the great "Masters of the Telecaster" such as Albert Collins, Albert Lee, Keith Richards, etc. I personally enjoy the sections on Cornell Dupree and the influence of the Tele on Rhythm & Blues style, as well as the blues and rockabilly sections.

There is a DVD available also, but I don't own it. See the "Guitar Player Magazine" review at:
