Got a LeoSounds MudCat tele pickup set (from www.leosounds.de ) for my Warmoth Partscaster with maple/rosewood neck and Bigsby tremolo unit.
Those pickups are slightly hotter than regular/vintage style pickups (which LeoSounds also offers).
The bridge pickup can be best described as ballsy, gutsy, punchy. Fatter than vintage tele types, but still with quite a bit of tele twang and bite (though for traditional Bakersfield-style country the vintage models might be better). Very round when played clean, noc ice-pickness; with a bit of overdrive they get growly and punchy, great for 1970s Classic Rock tones, aggressive, but no fizzy buzzsaw sound - just perfect.
The bridge pickup is very open-sounding, tranparent, clear, not muddy at all; if you want warm jazzy tones, you have to turn down the tone pot (I use a 250k with .022 Sprague cap) quite a bit, as this pickup definitely has more treble than other tele neck pickups. With the amp set on overdrive, they neck pickup starts to sing, but always retains a dirty, raunchy, bluesy character, never going fluffy-sweet.
Both pickups react very well to using the tone-pot, giving a wide variety of sounds.
These MudCats are perfect for blues, rootsy rock styles, rockabilly, etc. While they can still do country, I guess less hot pickups (like LeoSounds' "60s Standard"-set) might be a better choice.
Another point: these handwound pickups cost much less than most other 'boutique' pickups, even Seymour Duncans and DiMarzios are more expensive (at least here in Europe).
