What can I say? They've always been super to me. They have the broadest selection I have ever seen at a single retailer. Their prices are good - I've gotten many great deals on closeouts and scratch and dent items. I used to buy stuff from them at their retail outlets before they were bought by Guitar Center.

My recent experience with Musician's Friend was mixed.
I discovered a bargian. A Les Paul Junior, in ebony, for $450. They usually go for upwards of $700, and I've always wanted to try one out, so I couldn't turn it down.
Ordered, waited a little less than a week, and the box shows up on my doorstep.
They got the order right. The guitar and strings I ordered showed up in the correct quantities. I looked over the piece, and took it upstairs to try it out.
Long story short, I couldn't even tune the guitar, because when the D string got anywhere near pitch, it popped out of an almost nonexistant nut slot. I fixed this, no problem. Then I discover that whoever screwed in the bottom strap button screwed it in all the way, and then kept on going. The strap button was screwed in so far that it wouldnt hold a strap. I can fix this to, but later.
I plug in, and that's when I notice the big dent on the side of the guitar.
Three strikes. The guitar goes back.
I'm worried at this point, because I don't really want to pay shipping to get it back to MF. I'm all ready with my arguement that the piece was visably damaged, and shouldn't have been sent to me in the first place. No problem though. The guy at the customer service line (I got cut off twice BTW) hooks me up with a return authorization number, and e-mails me a FedEx shipping label to get it back. I don't pay a cent.
Bottom line, I'd shop there again, but only for strings (which they had cheaper than my local store) and electronics. For something as tangible and organic as a guitar or a tube amp, I'd stick with the local guys.

unreliable delivery. indifferent customer service. misleading information.

Musicians Friend knowingly misled me by publishing a phony delivery date for a popular back-ordered item.
After I had placed the order and had confirmed by phone the expected delivery date, they had emailed and notified me that their earliest delivery date will be March 10, about 20 days later than what they had promised. Meanwhile, they had in their description of the item, updated their delivery dates on Feb. 22nd, 24th, and 26th, always showing that this item will be available within the next couple of days.
I phoned and asked to speak to a supervisor when it was obvious that their agent wasn't giving me any reassurance that the item I had ordered will ship on the promised delivery date of March 10th. I was told that she was not able to connect me to a supervisor!!! Can you believe that she could have been so arrogant and indifferent!?
I cancelled my order and closed my account. I got to speak to a supervisor the next day. He admitted that they have been posting incorrect delivery dates, but "THAT'S BUSINESS." Wow! Talk about misleading! Needless to say, I shall never do business with Musiciansfriend again.
Fortunately, there are many other alternatives, and I was able to purchase a better Martin guitar from Music123. I almost bought one from Sweetwater except they didn't have the model I wanted. In the future, I shall make every effort to deal with Sweetwater as they post photos of the actual guitars they have in stock. You can choose from several from the photos! And you always know what they have in stock. Go check it out: www.sweetwater.com.
Musicians Friend, I maybe a hounddog, but you're sure NO friend of mine.

Don't answer emails.Sales help not knowledgeable

Bought two guitars and dozens of accessory items over the past 12 months. At least 15 shipments of stuff from them.
Shipping on both axes took only three days for each one.Smaller stuff took about 5 days.I like their strings(acoustic and electric)straps, mic stands and gig bags and cables. All were excellent values and very well made, though not necesscarily the very best in the whole world.Their guitar stands are not quite as good(center of gravity slightly off so tipping over could happen, maybe). One set of strings was missing G third and even though I called it in after 45 days (I had not opened the package sooner)they sent me a whole *dozen* G3rds which arrived only 3 days after my call to them! They failed to answer 3 emails about product questions, though and seem to be mostly kids probably making low wages while playing part time nights in bands and waiting to become rock stars so they can quit their day job.

A while back I ordered a Lexicon product from them. Was told that it was in stock and would ship immediately. A week later I called and they said it was "going out tomorrow". Six weeks and many phone calls later they informed me that they no longer carried the product.
Pretty unbelievable. If they ever became the only source for guitar related products I'd take up the Tuba.

They're not bad for things less than $75 but I wouldn't spend more than that on something unless I could hold it first.
