Pros: Thorough, confidence building soldering tutorial
Cons: none

This DVD did exactly what I hoped it would - gave me the confidence to tackle the soldering aspect of wiring a telecaster. I have soldered before but had never actually been taught, I was therefore unwilling to let myself attempt such a task on something so valuable to me as a guitar. On the other hand, I felt that I was potentially capable of carrying out this sort of work myself if I was shown how to do it, so I bought Mr Downs' well regarded DVD.

Firstly, shipping to the UK was fast, and I thank Terry profusely for the quicksilver turnaround of my order, and for the great communications to let me know it was on its way.

The DVD arrived and I immediately watched it. I have now done so several times. I think it says a lot that one can just watch it from start to finish - it shows how absorbing it is, Terry takes a subject that could be pretty dry and makes it interesting. I certainly felt after watching that I really wanted to have a go myself, the DVD inspires that level of confidence.

Everything is clear and professionally presented, and Terry is an excellent teacher. The camera work means that you really can see what is happening at all times, and every procedure is reinforced by helpful diagrams, where needed, and always described via helpful and straightforward explanation.

Terry is imparting a wealth of experience on the DVD and you really do feel that as long as you follow what he says you will be doing the job right. Terry shows you all the aspects of soldering you need from start to finish and leaves nothing out, thorough is the name of the game.

As a bonus Terry provides you with a list of useful supplier links and other pertinent information that is as useful as the DVD itself, although for obvious reasons it is geared primarily toward the States. I do wonder if those of us not in the US could collate together a list of suppliers so that Terry might be able to post similar links for other countries - that would have been useful to me.

Overall I cannot recommend this DVD highly enough, it gets ten out of ten all the way. It was everything I hoped for and probably exceeded those expectations in its execution. I have since been soldering using the advice from the disc and now feel quite confident in my ability. Obviously you need to practice but as long as you stick to what the man says you'll feel confident after watching this.

Thank you Terry Downs for coming up with a wonderful resource!

Finally, I am not affiliated to this product in any way, I am just a very satisfied customer. Buy it - it is money very well spent. I wanted to know how to do this stuff so as to avoid paying somebody every time I wanted to change a pickup, to that end (and for quite a lot more) it is just the job!
