BluesHawk Walked in to my local small-town music store to pick up some strings and ended up leaving with both the strings AND a "new" Fender Roadworn 50s Tele ! Yes, when I first saw Fender's ads I thought "now the phony relic bit has hit the masses".... The store had both a $3000 Custom shop Strat and the new Roadworn version at $899 - they looked about the same, so I picked up the new Tele version and played it for a bit...- the feel of the neck and body was about the same as my friend's genuine 50s Esquire ! The tone was good (Tex-Mex pickups, good-not-great) - the "relic" treatment looked about 98% genuine and I fell in love with it. I've been playing it now for a few days in Open G for slide, etc. and just ordered some Lollar Ts p/ups to replace the Tex-Mexs. I don't know that this is necessary, but I always have to Mod SOMETHING on my guitars ! I never thought I'd buy another MIM Fender product, but I'm really excited about this piece. I'd love to hear from anyone else that's purchased or is considering one of these. |
