I guess I am a want-to-be guitar player. I started playing when I was about 12 and played with bands. However, I learned songs enough to play and never actually practiced. I have just in the last couple of years started "learning" guitar. It has been a fun experience and a very gratifying one. I just wish there were musicians around here to play with. It's nice to learn but sometimes you want to try what you have learned! In 1973, I played bass with Jody Miller, who was pretty popular then! I once played lead guitar with a gospel group and we did shows with everyone from the Blackwood Brothers, The Imperials, Wendy Bagwell and the Sunlighters, Dottie Rambo, J.D.Sumner and the Stamps, and others. I have opened in a band for John Anderson and knew Fred Carter, Jr. I also got in on a recording that Fred Newell played harmonica on. Man, if I had known what a picker he was, I think I would have left! A few years ago, I was helped set up sound equipment for a Mel Tillis show and to meet him. What a nice guy and talented performer!
