"I've been pondering for awhile now what the soundtrack to the Bible would sound like (if there was one)." (GoldieLocks)
That question was answered when God wrote Wild Theme/Local Hero through Mark Knopfler. If you don't feel close to God when listening to this meditatively, then I don't know what would stir your soul!

That being said, just because someone becomes a Christian doesn't mean they stop being human. They just view their approach to live differently. Music is spiritual and the blues is one of many expressions which cover the entire circle of life. I don't see the blues and Christian as being mutually exclusive.

most christian blues i've heard is not raw enough for my taste... the line between gospel and christian blues might be to fine for some here but reverend charlie jackson is the john lee hooker of gospel/christian blues... he's not as raw on these clips as on his records, and this was after he had his stroke but this flat out rocks... the great big joe louis and the blues kings are his backup band in the 2nd clip... the compilation of his booker 45s god's got it is essential listening... tj

I'm going to get some of this guy's stuff, he seems like he might me along the lines you're talking about.
http://home.swbell.net/kdwilent/ I also like a lot of the Mississippi Hummingbirds (with members of the Band, no less) and the Blind Boys with Keb Mo. |

Christianity is about community. At least the type of Christianity based on the teachings of the New Testament. |

That belief varies between denominations. But I'm not sure if it's subject to discussion here..
