I've always liked Michelle Shocked.

Her Short Sharp Shocked CD was produced by and featured the Tele of Pete Anderson. My Ex had a copy and I really liked it.

I don't know why, but Michelle Shocked name keeps resurfacing in my radar. She is the cousin of my old bass player. I never knew any of her music or met her. But she went to the same high school as my bass player. He talked about her occasionally with awe and amazment of where her music career has taken her. He said that she was always shy growing up and he never knew her to be a singer or musician. For this reason, he was baffled that she made a career out of music.
This is news to me about her being involved with church in some way. I cannot watch the VID at work. So, I'll have to tune in later. |

Chills is right!
(I'm not supposed to watch at work, but I did) I love the big Gospel choirs. Got to work with one in Kuwait in '03 for about 6 months, mostly on Alto sax. Ain't no holdin' back when you're praising with a choir like that!

I believe I heard a new (?) Michelle Schocked tune on the radio the other day called (I believe) "Strange Things Happening Everyday." Very religious and with a great choir in this same black gospel style.

I like church music (play some myself,) but I'd rather listen to her doing something like Soldiers Joy with Uncle Tupelo, or something along that line.

Good lap steel player.....sweeeettt.
Here's a challenge for you. Please explain a Bible verse that justifies "feelin' God deep down in Your Soul"?
My Mormon friend justify's his entire faith by the Feelings he's had burning in his bossom. To me that may be an Old Taco coming back to haunt me. Or something more sinister. Just alittle theological debate I'm having with myself. I don't trust people's feeling's..........EVER. But I do have faith in the WORD of God. Some nice Lap STeel playin' though.

Music is very powerfull. The same power that blows the roof off a Chapel brings down the house at a Stones concert, or tears your guts out at a BB King concert, or gets you to dance your legs off at a local bar, or cry in your car to a CD.

Feelings........Ohhh, ooohhhh...feelings.
Glad to hear that I'm not alone. I too live by a NO-BULL standard.
I can't find the verse that mentions - Blessed are those who believe without seeing. I'm pretty sure we can add or Feelingto that. Although I mentioned it to my wife & she started singin' "I got the Joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart. Where? Down in my heart to stay. So thats cool for a kids song. Anyone got anymore helpful hints? But my joy isn't dependant on my emotions, or state of Happiness. Anyway, I'm always on a quest to find more songs to bring to our worship band. But I also have to question the theology of every song I find. And I've found some pretty useless ones.

"'Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.'" Here's a quote from King David, who God said was a man after His heart, psalm 92:1-4 "A psalm to be sung on the Lord's Day. A song. 1 It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to the Most High. 2 It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening, 3 accompanied by the harp and lute and the harmony of the lyre. 4 You thrill me, Lord, with all you have done for me! I sing for joy because of what you have done. There are thousands of verses like this, and many that teach of ways the Lord communicates to his children. Personally, if I were a "seeker" or an "unbeliever", I would question a Creator God that is all powerful, but yet couldn't seem to be powerful enough to speak directly to His redeemed, nor reveal Himself to whom He wishes. Just my .02 cents. I don't believe this is the proper place for a debate, but PM me if you wish to carry on this discussion. Peace! ~Shawn |

I don't think that emotions should play any part in our faith, but having faith, knowing that you are "redeemed", "saved", or whatever term you want to use, could cause you to have these emotions (I would think). |
