Canadian Christian Blues Festival

We just had our 4th annual Gospel Blues Festival up here in Chilliwack B.C. Canada (1 hr. East of Vancouver). Lots of fun. We had a few bands from the States (New jersey, Washington, California) & a bunch from Canada.
Its always the Best 3 days of my entire year. We got to see Darrell Mansfield, Bryan Duncan and a few other Semi famous Christian artists. Most importantly my band "Dusty Shoes" got to play again for the 4th year.

Its called "The Back 2 The Blues" music festival. The crowd gets a little bigger every year. We we're supposed to have Russ Taff play this year but it didnt' happen. Hopefully next year (Probably my fav Christian singer).

Oh well, just a little news. It sure was nice to be outdoors & crank my 4x12 cab.

Sounds great! Love what Russ Taff can do; saw him some years back and it was a monster show. Good luck for next year -- wish I could haul my tattered carcass all that way!

That sounds like a blast. BC in the summer is nice, too. I'll have to put it on my calendar one of these years.

A picture is worth a thousand words. I dropped in and saw Goldilocks' Band, enjoyed their set and got a bunch of photo's.

Back 2 Blues

Hey Johnny! Good to see you here. After you guys played I was gonna hunt you down & find out what gear you were usin'. You probably had the Coolest tone of the weekend. A little more overdrive than most of the guys - but I loved it.
I didn't know you we're from so far away.

so what gear we're you using? I thought you might've used one of Shannon's amps. You must have a sweet overdrive Pedal then.

Rod, I only use a Trimmed and Burnin 59er 2x12. They scream when you crank them. I had mine set at about 4.5- 5. It starts to growl really nice about there. Kick on the overdrive and she sings!
At the fest I was using a 59er 2x12 and a 2x10 cab. I was using two of Shannons Guitars. The Trimmed and Burnin' ResoTele they raffled off and a Redwood Trimmed and Burnin' Belly Boy tele.
My pedal is a Boss BD2 with a Keeley phat mod (Keeley does amazing things with pedals). I do use a bit of over drive (always trying to get that Duane tone), as Kevin my bassplayer likes to say "we just go out and punch people in the throat" kinda sums it up I guess? LOL
Thanks for the kind words... Love your band and your sound. You play some mean slide too!

Way too much fun!! Man, I wish there was something like that around here. You'd think that being so close to LA we would have lots of great events like that festival. Oh well...

Well, I'm getting the ol Bluesmobile ready for the trip Johnny! I was hoping to have the engine and tranny swap done by now but while checking out the 283 I found rust on a couple of the valves,, shame on me for letting it sit so long under the plastic and letting condensation trickle into the heads! So now I'm going to go through the motor before putting it in the truck. It would break my heart to go to all that work and have to pull the motor again because I was'nt thourough ya know?? But I garentee that by the 1rst week of December the ol Bluesmobile will be up to the trip!!
Greg will have his amp in plenty of time for the CD. I heard from him that he has some gigs in the near future that he's like to have it for as well,,,soon.
Dude! I love talkin guitars,, Swamp Thang it is!

I've been part of the Back2Blues Fest for four years now,, if there is any thing I can do let me know and I'll see if it's possible. I'd love to see Gospel Blues festivals all over the USA and Canada.

Larry Howard

Larry Howard is one of my "Gospel Blues Gurus",, we met at the Back2Blues Fest 4 years agao and have become friends. He is using one of my 59'er 2x12's. Larry played with a group called GrinderSwitch way back when and toured with the Allman Bro's as their opening band for a few years.
Larry has been battling HepC and has'nt been able to work for the last 2 1/2 years and it looked like the treatment was not working. My wife and I have been praying for Larry and Peggy as well as many others and it looks like the good Lord heard! Larry called me last week saying that he has been off treatment for awhile now and is feeling better than he has felt in four years,,, he's starting back to work with his prison ministry,,,
He will be performing at the Back2Blues Fest this year and it looks like my band "The Trimmed And Burnin Blues Project" will back him up. What an honor!!! He'll be coming up a couple weeks early and playing a few other gigs with us before the B2B's Fest,,,
Please pray for him that the HepC will not come back,,,, it can reappear at anytime,, he'll be getting checkups regularly. It has been a very difficult time for he and Peggy,,, Mercy!
