Pray for my sister who is trying to have a baby and has had setbacks recently. And for anyone who is also trying to have baby.

Nasonm, Your request hits close to my heart. My sister has been also trying to have a baby. We will lift them up to the Lord.

My next request, I just changed churches, in my old church I played with a real good group of musicians. After the word got out that I played guitar I was invited to join the praise band. They have a traditional choir mentality and the musicians are not good. I have been giving them some suggestions but they are not listening. Please pray for me. I want to help them but I dont want to hurt or offend anyone. But if they want to get better as a praise band things just need to change.

I know how you feel! I feel like I'm in the same "boat" at my church!!

I'd appreciate all the prayers for my brother (and all others) in their fight with cancer.

Last October, my wife sustained a severly broken leg/ankle - which required surgery to repair. She was fitted with an "Illizarov Fixator", which is one of those bird-cage contraptions that have wires/rods attached to it which extend through the leg/bone to keep the bones securely in position. Needless to say, we've both had a very hard time of it over the last 4-1/2 months. All that said, she has done very well. No complications/infection and the healing process has been steady (albeit slow). I guess it's true that the darkest part of the night is just before sun up, because as we get closer to the day she gets this thing removed (4-8 weeks from now) she seems to be having more difficulty coping. She's just flat-out dog-tired, no other way to put it - fighting a daily war against depression. I know how this thing is going to end, but I also know what will help in the meantime. You guys know what to do - we will be praying for you all as well.

My requests kinda pale in comparison to previous ones, but they're things I'm struggling with now and I'll try best to explain.

I'm about to go to college and I'm worried about financial aid and paying off the first year. (The university I'm going to has a fee of $40,000 a year) I'm in a special situation where my family lives overseas and my dad doesn't pay taxes in the US, and the FAFSA ended up looking funny, I think.

Secondly, I've been 'commissioned' by a good friend (who works for Campus Crusade and plays guitar in the worship team with me) to search for 'the nice acoustic'. I'm very involved in music and youth ministry and he contributed a generous amount to start me off. Just pray that I have the wisdom and patience to find the right one because pickings are slim this side of the world. [I started a related thread in the Acoustic Heaven section]

God will provide the way for your education - period. On your second point, you have a very interesting "problem" (lol). A "very generous amount" means that you will probably be able to afford a high quality instrument. Along those lines, I would look at the Martins (my personal favorite), Gibsons, Taylors (my least favorite of the mentioned group), etc. As for availability - you can get just about anything you want via mail-order, unless you feel the need to "test drive" the guitar before you buy it (which would definately be the case with me) - which brings you full circle back to the beginning. We just found out that my uncle Bob has kidney cancer. They don't know if there's anything that can be done yet, but please pray. He's a good uncle and he has a wife, 2 sons and some grandchildren.

Prayers to everyone for the health, school, and baby-making probs.

I don't remember if I posted here about this before, but I lost my church gig (and more importantly, my church) at the end of last year and am looking for a new one.

Anyhow, here's an update.

I played guitar in church for a decade (1996-2006) but unfortunately our church is going through some changes that made it impossible to stay. We've been "floating" around at a few churches for the past couple months. Of the top two contenders currently one was favored by me because it is our same denomination, but it had several downsides: further away, and only contemporary service was at 11 on Sundays (my wife prefers a Saturday evening service). Another upside to that church for me was that they had a great bassist and drummer, but no guitarist.

A couple weeks ago we went there again, and my heart sank. They had a great electric guitarist, and an acoustic-electric rhythm person playing. I don't know if maybe they had been off on a mission trip or what, but the odds of me eventually playing there dropped significantly.

So last night we were at the other church, the closer one that the rest of my family likes a lot (it is nice, the other church I'm just more used to since it's the same denomination we've always been). It's a much bigger church and also has a very good band. However, with so many more people to choose from I figured somebody would have to pass over and be in Jimi's band upstairs before my "talents" would be needed there.

However, I noticed something last night. The guitarist for the service was the same one I'd seen at the other church last week (I don't forget a sunburst Epiphone Sheraton easily)! Plus, they have one of those big overhead projector thingies for pre-service announcements (and for song lyrics during the service), and before the service started they put up on the screen something saying that they needed people to play electric, acoustic, and bass! I'm not sure whether they're maybe hiring some people right now and looking for free volunteers (which is what I've always done anyhow) instead, but I've checked their practice schedule, and if they'll have me it seems a doable thing.

So anyhow, I'ma call 'em and see what's up. Although I know I could handle the music (I don't sight-read, but I'm used to playing from lead sheets no problem), playing in that big a sanctuary would be a little bit daunting (the place easily seats triple or quadruple what my church did).

Bottom line is feel like this is maybe where the Big Guy wants us to end up and maybe making a spot in that band was just His way of nudging me in the right direction. So any prayers for this to work out would be greatly appreciated.

You might be right! We're all a "work of progress". We just have to listen to Him...with an "open ear", and an even more "open heart".

I met with the Music Director at the new church described above, he was supposed to give me an "audition packet" but couldn't find it in his newly-moved office. Have e-mailed him but not heard back. I reckon I'll run into him this Saturday night and just ask him about it then. Either way or however that works out, it looks like that's the church we'll probably end up going to.

I do have a prayer request much more pressing for someone else though. One of my wife's students has a son with a rare disorder called Larsen's Syndrome. I was saying nightly prayers with my 9-year-old this week and he told me "we have to pray for Gabriel." I had seen a photo of Gabriel on our fridge in a hospital bed but had not had a chance to ask my wife about it. The boy's one leg in the photo looks like it was put on sideways-- a sympton of Larsen's is joint dislocation and "hypremobility." In the photo it also looks like he has a tracheotomy tube in his throat as well.

I am not sure about all his health problems but if you could pray for that boy named after an angel I'd be grateful. It sure seems like he could use it.

My stepnephew had surgery and is recovering. Apparently his ribcage or was sticking out on one side and was sunken in on the other. Thank God for morphine.

Was he in an accident, or was this something congenital?
