Mainstream Country songs with a Christian message

Can anyone add to these newer country songs that have done reasonably well in the mainstream country charts?

Brooks and Dunn - Believe
Carrie Underwood - Jesus Take the Wheel
Kenny Chesney - Baptism
Collin Raye - What if Jesus came back like that
Randy Travis - 3 wooden crosses
Diamond Rio - I Believe
Diamond Rio - God only cries for the living
Buddy Jewell - Help Pour Out the Rain (Lacey's Song)
Phil Vassar - This God
Steve Warriner - Holes in the floor of heaven

Brad Paisley has a few:
In The Garden
Rugged Old Cross
Farther Along
New Again
When I Get Where I'm Going

When I Get Where I'm Going was the only one on the charts, but it was a #1 song =)

For the vintage country lovers....Johnny Cash had some. I was there when it happened, I talk to Jesus everyday, Greystone Chapel (which was on his legendary live at Folsom Prison record). One of my favorites is the Randy Travis 3 wooden crosses

Johnny Cash put out a CD called "My Mother's Hymn Book" that contains lots of great songs in simple arrangements.

Don't remember the singer...

But there was one a couple years ago called " I love You This Much"... that was a good one. Waylon had "I Do Believe" and a duet with Johnny Cash called "The Greatest Cowboy".

Actually, there's a 3-disc set of Johnny Cash's stuff, called Love/God/Murder, the names of the three discs. I've only heard the 'God' disc, but it's absolutely fabulous, ranging from early, early gospel stuff recorded in mono to others that sound more like the Johnny Cash you're used to hearing. I'd recommend the whole thing in a heartbeat, and give special attention to "The Man In White", which tells the story of Saul in a way only Johnny could. Go get it.

Vince Gill's song has a cool story behind it.
I use it to sing at funerals along with "I can Only Imagine"

A number of years ago I was at the Dream Center in LA, Tommy and Matthew Barnett, and their worship team did a cover of Wynnona Judd's "No one Else on Earth" It really rocked the house.

They changed a couple of words here and there and all of a sudden instead of a heart being broken by some turkey, it was how much the Lord loves us.,
It was incredible, because it has such a strong hook "No one else on earth"

Just a thought.

Is it me, Pastor Jeff? Or does anybody else have a problem with "Christianizing" mainstream rock, country, disco, jazz songs? Frankly I think it is a cheezy practice worse than some of the ... for lack of a better word ... godawful ... praise and worship songs I've heard that have infected some church services today. Now Judd's tunes I guess aren't that far off from the mark. Wynonna covered, "I Can Only Imagine" although I liked the original much better. I mean where will the madness stop? What's next? "Highway To ... Heaven"? "I Want to ... Praise And Worship ... All Night And ... Testify Everyday"? There are some Christian's who give Christ a bad rap through their actions. And there are some who make the movement look a little ... goofy. Just my opinion.

I'm witcha. It's not a new practice, and it's always seemed to me that the message is that Christians can't write good songs about the Lord and need to steal 'em from others. And/or just trying to ride the coattails of a successful secular song to try to make evangelistic hay out of it.

God is bigger than that.

Mainstream Country songs with a Christian message

Charles, I totally understand you. I remember my college days when the Assembly of God use to have these seminars & preach against Rock & Roll & Country. I walked out on one of these seminars. You could only listen to Christan. They actually thought the Beatles, AC/DC, & KISS were bad. They even tried to read things into lyrics that weren't there. I remember all the untruths on KISS back then. But with todays music in the church they can't say anything against the secular music of the world. All they have done is taken the rock beat & added Christian lyrics. I remember when they took John Denver song "Country Roads" & rewrote it to "Gospel Roads". I am waiting for someone to rewrite "Sweet Home Alabama" to Gospel words. Imagine "Stairway To Heaven" or "Hotel California" with Christian lyrics.
I think instead of the church trying to copy the world, the world needs to copy the church.
