Somewhat OT, but not really: Anthony Burger, 1961-2006

We were talking below about "Southern Gospel Pickers", and Anthony was the best: not on guitar, but on piano. Anybody who has seen the Gaither shows has been blessed by his phenomenal talent, and also the obvious joy he experienced in playing.

Anthony died Wed. evening, apparently of a heart attack, onstage, playing a concert. He's playing a command performance for the King of Kings now, and Earth's loss is Heaven's gain.

I heard about Anthony's death before it hit the major news sources and I was absolutely shocked and saddened to hear of his passing.

The rumor that he was playing, "We Shall Behold Him" when he passed is false. He was backing Bill, Guy Penrod, Gloria Gaither and other artists on the Gaither-penned "Hear My Song, Lord".

Mark Lowry posted an account from Russ Taff's wife, Tor, about what transpired on Wednesday evening.

It's posted in his "Rambling Remarks" section of his website. It can be found here

Anthony's death really shocked me. He will be missed sincerely. I first met him when he was with the Kingsmen. He was a real nice guy and an amazing musician.

From all accounts I've heard of Anthony, he truly was a gentleman (and a gentle man). He had an amazing God-given gift! This loss has affected Bill Gaither the most because something like this has never happened before. If you read the account of Anthony's passing on Mark Lowry's website, I can only imagine the horror and shock that everyone felt seeing him playing one minute and then...*POOF*....he was gone the next.

RIP, my brother in Christ....you will be missed by many!
