Got a great compliment last night....
At least I think I did anyway. I was at my choir practice and I was told that I would be doing a solo this Sunday. Now, after singing rock and country for so long, its not easy for me to sing hymns without putting a little "soul" into it. But, with the rest of the choir singing, mostly nobody notices. Well we went through the practice, and I ran through my solo 2 or 3 times. Afterward, one of the ladies in the choir came up to me and said. "I love your voice. You sound just like Van Morrison." Now I love Van's music, but never really made any effort to try to sound like him. Nonetheless, it felt kinda good getting a compliment like that.

It's always great to get uplifted. Too many "services" for God & Church are overlooked & never acknowledged, especially when you get into the serving that is relegated to the background & that no one ever get to see being performed.
It can also, at times, get a bit frustrating when people have the best, get accustomed to it & never acknowledge any appreciation what-so-ever. I hope you go back to her again & let the her know how much what she said meant to you & how uplifting her comments were at the time & how they continue to be a blessing. She may not even realize what a great ministry she is performing. God Knows... Keep up the good work for God. |

Good job! Always makes you feel like you're doing something right when someone comments on it.
I get some comments, but it's usually like "what is that, a banjo?" when I'm playing mandolin. Or, after playing (what I thought) was a good solo, someone'll come up and say "wow, your wife has an excellent voice!". As long as we do with our music what it's supposed to do for our congregations, I guess that should be enough, right?

Praise the Lord! The gift of encouragement is one of the most important in the body of Christ, but not nearly as popular as some of the "flashier" ones.
(And being compared to Van ain't bad either!)

It's definitely nice to get a bit of encouragement once in a while. I got a postcard in the mail last week from someone at our church who I wouldn't know if she was standing in front of me. It basically said thanks for playing on the worship team and we sound great and she loves it. Our pastors wife is good at that too. I usually play guitar but I'm actually mainly a drummer and she always sends me an email when I play drums or if I'm on guitar and we play a song that is a bit harder edge (she knows those are usually my idea).
