When my daughter wanted to start playing we got her a CD Rom and she learned about 2-3 years worth of lessons off of it. Cheap and ready to practice when you are.
Get around some other players! There is nothing like seeing someone do it. Believe it or not, you can show someone else something and vise versa. Everyone learns different things at different rates.

There are lessons in all types of music. It has tab but no standard notation. Covers basic to advanced. Some lessons are great, some not so great but whatever the topic there will be something there to help. This should be used in addition to your formal lessons, not as a substitute. Hope it helps. Not knowing the fact & complete situation.....the fact is...some people progress slowly.
A few questions... 1) Is the problem with the teacher...or you? 2) Is the teacher not teaching you anything, or.... are you not really interested in learning what the teacher is trying to teach? A lot of the problem is. that most beginners do not want to waste time learning the basics...they want to play a song. 3) How much do you practice? Are you really putting forth a concerted effort & adequate time? If you show up for a lesson & haven't "mastered" the fundamentals of the last lesson, more than likely, the teacher is not going to move on to the next step. 4) Have you discussed your frustration with the teacher...let it be known what you would like to learn? A lot of the time, teachers are more flexible than students think & if you discuss it with them, then possibly he/she will understand. Once that is unerstood & both of you start heading toward the same goal, it will progress a bit faster. Very seldom does anyone ever feel like they are progressing fast enough. Learning guitar, looks so easy, but for all but the 'gifted' , it's a process that is much slower, tedious & harder than we want it to be. Patience and Practice..... and practice....and practice....and practice...... |
