What is your favorite Praise & Worship song?
What's your favorite P&W song that you play in Church? One of mine is from Mercy Me, "I Can Only Imagine". I cant remember the young mans name, who authored it, but he said it was about his father passing away; As his father got closer to death, due to a terminal illness, his dad would tell him that he could see Heaven, and the people rejoicing, and Jesus in their midst, and His Glory is surrounding them! This young man recalls only being able to say, I can only imagine.
After his father went to Heaven, he would think about his dad, and how he could only imagine the Joy that he was experiencing, and that conversation they had had, then the song came to him. I'll tell you what, that song wrecks me every time! I cant get through it without the tears flowing. It gets right into my heart, and I can imagine what it will be like, when we walk by His side. So lets hear it; what P&W song just gets straight to your heart?

"I can only Imagine" is an incredible song. I like the new acoustic version, too.
"Freedom" from Darryl Evans is one of my favorites. "History Maker", "Your love is extravagant", "I could sing of your love forever", "Dance in the river"... too many! |

"Open the Eyes of My Heart"
The arrangement we used for the last young adult concert we did was done in "U2" Style--heavily delayed guitar !===a little tricky but real cool--------

Just ONE????
I guess my current favorite is "Come, Now Is The Time To Worship." I use a little echo, "U2"style (no 3rds.) It ROCKS and the lyrics have a great message.
Depending on the setting, I do the solo in E on guitar or pennywhistle if done in an acoustic setting. I also play the intro on Low D whistle. Gary - Contemporary Celtic rock guitar, pennywhistle and DADGAD tuned acoustic guitar. |

There are a lot to choose from, but recent memory of a version of The Wondrous Cross that had a heavey echoed, dropped D droning guitar was very moving. Last week we pulled out an old rocker, I Love Your Grace, complete w/ bass and guitar solos, big greasy (Ratted) guitar w/ lots of room for fills at the ends of the vocal lines.

Mad me glad
is one of my current fav's. Another is You are holy. At least, i think thats the name...worthy is the Lamb. I don't know who does it, but we do an incredible ( IMHO ) version. I'm fairly new to the worship team and have not heard the original versions of many of the songs we do. As with my secular band playing day's, I usually came in cold filling in for sick or otherwise unavailable guitar players. I love flying by the seat of my pants with songs I've never heard before. There are some incredible songs out there right now and some awesome older tunes too. We have quite a few friends from Australia. There are some incredible worhip songs coming from Australia.

Tough question to answer...
...so many songs to choose from, and "favorite" today may not be the same as it will be tomorrow. We do a song "First Love" sometimes, I think it came over from Australia with Hillsongs, that song can make me feel like I'm standing in the musical center of the universe, but then there have been many other songs that have had that same effect at one time or another. We do so many songs, many of which I've never heard a recording of...also can depend on the musicians and singers who are there on any given day. I think I have a lot of favorites.
Every now and then we've had Saturday night praise and worship nights and had musicians from other churches get together with us and let loose. Then I find out that in spite of the many many songs we do or have done, there are just as many more I haven't even heard yet! |

I think the song Brad is talkin about is....
"Agnus Dei". Very Worshipful (I hope I'm not makin up a word there?). I sent Brad a private message with the lyrics, so maybe it's the same one, guess we'll have to wait for Brad to get back to us? But, with the few lyrics he called out, it seems to fit.

It varies, but...
...our band and choir have done the song "Embrace the Cross" on two occations recently. This past Sunday we did it with just acoustic guitar, bass, keyboard, and percussion, and it is a really beautiful song when the accompaniment is kept simple like that. I remarked to our director that I'd love to hear it done as a solo, as it has a very Dan Fogelberg-ish kind of feel to it.

My Glorious----by Delirious
working on that for an upcoming large youth event in the Meadowlands---really a cool song--lotta overdriven guitar---anybody play that tune?
Would you think a "rectifier type"sound or a "bassman" type more natural overdrive ? just kinda mullin it over in my mind (and heart) any opinions brothers ?

So many to choose from...
Great thread! Amazing to see the songs already listed are my favorites too! Anyway here are three of the songs (I couldn't keep it to one) that are band and congregation favorites at Christian Fellowship Church in Scotland, CT:
1. Grace Like Rain - Todd Agnew style. Modern version of amazing grace with added chorus. GREAT TELE SONG! I use my super clean setting on my Blues Jr. (Master vol dimed and the gain on 3-4). I use tremolo and delay on the beginning. Then when it starts rocking on the chorus, I switch off the trem. The delay is dotted eighth note (kind of U2ish). I set the tempo on my DD-5 using the tap-tempo feature. The little lead riffs really jump out. This song really rocks! The band loves it but the congregation is still warming to it. 2. God of Wonders - We do it Paul Baloche style in E. Another great tele song. Electric guitar in on the second verse and the solo after the second chorus. We have also synced with video(DVD) on this one. The DVD is iWorship vol 1 (I think). The band plays with a click track that is synced with the DVD. The congregation loves it. Takes a lot of concentration by the band to stay synced. Takes practice and discipline to do it but it's an effective tool to help people focus on worshiping God. 3. So Close - This is a congregation favorite. We just did it yesterday with a synced video that I made on my Mac with iMovie and iDVD. |

All of the above are fantastic...but my ALL TIME favorite is "In the secret"...not too fast though.. AS for My Glorious.... The version I have played is off of the Passion CD... Humbucker into DirectDrive with drive turned up into super reverb set to cook...did it nicely! I would say rectifier over bassman alone but I would prefer bassman with good pedal. you need some gain for sure

A couple of my favorites..
Kind of depends upon what guitar I'm playing and which church I'm in, but I like..
Shine Jesus Shine I've Always Loved You - 3rd Day and we play a real nice medley for communion services, In Rememberance of Me, One Bread, One Body, and a couple others. For an older crowd I'll do Turn, Turn, Turn as they exit, just to make them look back. And for my old family church I'll do: In The Garden, Amazing Grace Joyful, Joyful any of the old standards OH... and Christmas Music...how can I forget, we rock those things! |

Favorite worship song
I don't play it, because I'm not that good yet, but my favorite is "The Heights/Mercy" by David Crowder. It strikes me as being very honest. "All I Can Say" has been getting me too. I guess I'm in a place where the songs that express brokenness are really resonating with me.
