The birthday amp (ridiculously long!)
Greetings from down under. I thought I'd update you all on the performance of the Behringer GM110 "birthday" amp. (Confused? - see my post from 2 weeks ago and thanks so much for your kind words in reply!)
It arrived last Thursday. My first new amp ever and my first non-valve ( that means non-"tube" to you north americans) amp at the same time. I was really excited - I'm told it was pitiful to see a 47y.o. being so childish! For those of you who don't know the amp has a "drive" control then Califorian/British/Tweed - "Amp" options; Clean/HiGain/Hot - "Mode" options; Flat/U.K./U.S. - "Speaker" options. Then the usual Bass, Mid, Treble and Volume controls. See the Behringer site if you're interested. It took me quite a while to find a sound I was comfortable with. The "Californian" and "British" settings have too much drive/distortion. I like smooth, clean tones. I ended up most liking the Tweed,Clean,US combination with my 52ri Tele and the Tweed,Clean,Flat combination with my acoustic, both with maximum drive, bass and treble but only a little mid. I used it for the first time at our 9.30am service on Sunday. It was so light to carry in from the car and the balanced line out option meant our sound guy didn't have to mic it (or struggle with an unbalanced ext. speaker type of signal that my old monster supplied). Did it sound good? … Sorry, I can't really tell you. The sound guy didn't realize that I wasn't coming through fold-back and I didn't worry about trying to get his attention during the service. I know I was audible through the p.a. speakers but I couldn't hear clearly enough to say how it sounded to the congregation. I was happy with the on-stage sound that my acoustic was projecting and happy to be using new equipment to praise the Lord. I still plan to use the 52ri down the track but I can wait for the right moment / right song - after all it's all about praising Him, not pleasing yourself. -bj |

bj, congrats on your birthday! Not familiar with that particular amp, but as long as you like it to make the tones you need, it will work just fine. Like your statement about "pleasing Him, and not ourselves." God bless
