Spontaneous Unrehearsed Instrumental Music In Church?

Is anyone else doing this? We'll get a few musicians to play during a prayer hour prior to service. There's no charts, no practice, etc. One guy just starts playing something and the rest join in. Then a singer will sing some spontaneous praise or sing scripture over the music. Its actually been a great experience in our little church.

If you go to the MySpace link in my signature and listen to the song titled "Dancing River excerpts" you can hear a sample of what I'm talking about. There's no singing on this one. I'm playing a nylon string guitar.

Just curious if other folks are doing this.

Thanks!

One Sunday morning a few years back our worship leader was late for practice before service. Our lead player started chugging out a riff and we all joined the party. She came in, we kept playing. She looked around, smiled, figured out what key we were in and she, too was in. And we kept playing as the congregation came in and went straight into the first worship song (oddly, it was in the same key). It was a great morning!!

We do this all the time at my church. Usually before service gets close to starting I will play a chord progression and the drummer will come in on it, then the keyboardist will play some melodic fills to go along with the chords and before you know it....we're jamming.

Now if we could only get a singer to join in...lol.
