A Prayer Request...
...if you think of it.
I was recently blessed to get a job working with special needs adolescents - developmentally disabled, behaviorally challenged. One client, Ronnie, really pulls at my heart. Physically small from fetal alcohol syndrome, ADHD, hurts himself sometimes, raped when he was a baby, not very communicative. But his eye/hand coordination is good, he's interested in everything, and he loves music. He's fascinated by instruments of all kinds and he loves to sing. I've just convinced the rest of his treatment team to o.k. the purchase of a guitar for Ronnie. Jay Turser makes one that's small (3/4 size?), well made and plays in tune, for $69.00, so that's what Ronnie is getting. I'm going to give him a few lessons. We all know what a healing thing it can be to strum a guitar and sing. I'm hoping it will be so for Ronnie. That's my prayer, and that I can help him in the way he needs to be helped to get there. If anyone cares to agree with me in prayer on that it'd be appreciated. |

My eyes welled up . . .
while reading this post. That is awesome. I will join you in prayer that Ronnie becomes a shining light in this world.
You never know, this could be "THE" thing in his life that gives him purpose. But, it is entirely possible that he might loose interest in music and not persue it long enough to enjoy it. Even still, the exposure that you provide him may inspire him to do something else just as fulfilling. I'll pray that your efforts are rewarded through the measure of success in one form or another. Good luck. May God be you you both. |

Thanks for your desire to help Ronnie. As the father of a 25 year old disabled son, it is refreshing and encouraging to see people reach out to this often neglected community of people that God loves dearly. Thank you for being in this mission field! May God truly bless you and your work.

Absolutely!
That is a beautiful thing, Chad - we have a home for people with learning disabilities just near here, and when there's anyone available there to look after them (not often enough, they're always short staffed) they bring some of the residents to church. Tragically, it seems we're about the only church in the area happy to have them - or we were a few years ago anyway - and some of these guys are born-again Christians! Imagine that - never being able to worship God with your brothers and sisters because no-one wants to risk having your sort in church
So rock on, Chad and Ronnie - my prayers are with you!

Thanks, everyone, God bless all of you. Ronnie won't get his guitar until the 19th (bureacracy!) but the prayers are being answered already. This evening Ronnie pitched a little fit at being told it was bedtime, including slamming his hands down on the table! This is a boy who historically has ignored, shut down and retreated into his own world when encountering something he doesn't like, so interacting with the real world and expressing negative feelings outward, rather than inward and hurting himself, is a real step forward. I was tickled!
