Worship Team Guitar Players! Pedal Board Setup

Hey gang,

I've been looking to put together a pedal board for easy pack-up and go for gigs and Sunday morning services.

I only work 7-8 pedals max at a time. I'm really set on a "pedal bag". That is, zipper nylon bag with padding and hard MDF/Plywood board and fabric on it for mounting pedals. These kits usually come with power supply and daisy chain cords.

Can anyone recommend a few different pedal bag options? I know eBay is littered with them... but finding it hard to distill what's good and what's not.

Looking for a good value - willing to spend a few bucks but don't want to miss out on key features.

Let me know.

I have that Kit.... I got it on Ebay.$50 or so shipped. I LOVE it and I have a wah and 7 others on mine, a huge Visual Sound H2O being one of them. I have been using mine for 3 years now. Every Sunday and Wednesday....

Ever considered a FURMAN? its not a bag, BUT...it comes with a hardshell top that snaps down, and even has those luggage styled wheels...you just pull up the lever and drag it where ever you need it. when packed up it looks like a weird suitcase.

reason why i got it was because of the Power Conditioning feature, you can plug everything into it basically(Guitar Amp, Pedals, Music Stand Light!). the power conditioning feature really killed the buzz problems i'd get from my churches quirky electrical outlets. the pedals velcro to the board.

Do you have a link to where I could find the pedal bag you found?

Does anyone have a good recommendation for some pro-quality patch cables? I've heard goldtipped cables are good.

Any brand recommendations, particular products, etc?

It is that generic one that you see all over Ebay. No name on it anywhere. I did up the power supply to a one spot 1 amp. However my son still uses his stock supply.

I was just looking at some AXL patch cables on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...:X:RTQ:US:1123

Anyone ever tried these? They appear to have gold tips.

I am currently using one of these, the black version.

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/p...Bag?sku=546157

I am starting to outgrow it, but it's worked well for over a year for me. I am considering getting the next size up, and transferring the power supply to it, since it mounts nicely underneath the board. My only beef is that it could be a little wider, top to bottom, since the power plugs stick out a bit, so it can be a little crowded, but nothing major.

I'll snap a pic at practice tonight.

+1 on the Gator board. I have one and it contains and powers everything. The power supply has plenty of plugs and the 18 volt connections (3) are handy.
It's probably not the best board for a wah pedal, but most like the wah sitting on the floor anyway. I'd also recommend George L's cables. The connectors are smaller and the cable itself is easier to route (more flexible).

http://www.flickr.com/photos/25859918@N02/2845346133/

I've used CoreX cables on my board (whose picture I can't get to show up for some reason) and the connectors are huge. It can be the difference between something fitting on your board or not.

Anyone looking to sell their pedal board/wbag combo? I already have a power supply and daisy chain cables - just need board+bag.

Check out the Pedaltrain boards; they are very strong, lighter than the same size wood/mfd, and they come with a nice bag. You might beable to get all your pedals onto a PT Jr. or a PT2 would give you some room to expand. I've used a PT2 at church for years, never had a problem with it, and I consider it some of the best money I've ever spent on gear.

http://pedaltrain.com/

Btw, the Pedaltrain boards are a favorite over on the TGP, and there are a couple of long-running threads about them w/lots of pics:

Another vote for the pedaltrain jr. I have one setup for guitar or Bass as I need both...
Right now, I have six pedals on it - 3 for guitar; 3 for Bass.
Use a one spot for power and it all fits nicely in the soft case!

My Setup is:
Tele - TU-2 - DS-1 - Danelectro Spring King (Reverb)- Tiny Terror

Since our Worship is only about half an hour I don't need many different pedals/colours. Have my TT set to a nice crunch and use the DS-1 to go to 11.

I recently added a Reverb, a Line6 Verbzilla. I've never really missed reverb, but now that I've added it, it won't come off my board. Now I've just got to add a phase, and I should be set. Except for changing my mind on distortion/overdrive every few months.

I like the Coffin Case that I use:

I have 8 pedals in it now (including a volume pedal), and I might be able to squeeze two more in there.

I picked mine up used for 40 bucks.

Do you run the process on your SS full on like that, or did it just get bumped by accident...just curious.

I got a new board today and just finished setting it up. I tried to keep it neat but I think I am going to looking into changing out a few of the cables, possibly. Also thinking of selling the TR-2 and finding a different Tremolo, I have not been super thrilled with it, but maybe I just need to mess with it a bit more.

Nigel, I'm cheap....

I got a 24" strip of 1x12" pine, painted it black, attached a 4" tall, L-shaped piece across the front for neatness, added some supervelcro from WalMart, and put my pedals on. It cost me something less than $15, including the paint. It rests in a big black gym bag that cost me another $15 and also holds 3 gtr cables, a power strip, and an extension cord.

The only reason to get rid of would be to use more than 7 effects.

+1, except I went with scrap plywood from a building project. I use a 1-spot for power.

Well, I wish it were cooler, and a little bigger, but the price is right, and it's the closest I'll ever come to building my own guitar :-)

I have a simple Danelectro pedel borad with a tuner, distortion, echo, trem and chorus. I got the DJ Blues set up and for my purposes its great! I hope to get a pic of it soon, but the truth is, its pretty stock and i am sure everyone knows what it looks like. This is all very new to me, as I played my acoustic for a million years as a pastor, and now, as a "member" we are getting a worship band started. Any suggestions? I am playing a Peavey Generation EXP. Direct to the PA.

Yes, thats how I run it.

I have this tone in my head, and its a hybrid of Jimmy Page's tone off the early LZ albums, and Dean Deleo off of the STP and Army of Anyone CD's. It gets me there, thats fo sho!

SKB board with RAT->Liverpool Sanamp->Blonde sansamp->BossDD-2->Boss RVB5->DI . The liverpool gives a good jangling sound for picked chords and the Blonde is set for solos.

COAHplayer,

I've been looking seriously at the Tech 21 Liverpool but I'm a bit wary of what is for me a large purchase without being able to try it out. What do you think of it? How easy is it to dial in good AC-30 tone? How does it respond to the RAT you're using?

Thanks.

Tech 21

The liverpool is great. Its like having any flavor of vox in one box. I set the character to 10 and the drive just past 12 with single coils its awesome. If you don't like to tweak don't get it because it takes some time to dial everything in with your guitar.

I do use the rat but with the distortion set to 1/4 or less and the filter at about 2-3 o'clock. I just use it to push the liverpool into a more crunchy sound. The liverpool is great with the delay to get a more pop sound.

Before you dump the TR-2 consider sending it to Keeley for his mod. My Keeley TR-2 is great. A totally different animal. Very clean, tons of depth and dimension. Also, the option to use it as a clean boost is nice. For $50 or whatever it's something to think about.

I haven't heard what's up after the fire, hopefully they're still able to keep up with the mods.

I've had a couple (2) of the el cheapo pedal bags and the board and bag are fine. The only problem I ever had was with the power supply so I just went to the one spot and don't use the power supply that came with the board. It works great and I've had no problems with it after a year of hard use.

I am sure it's nice modded, but I don't think I want to put anymore money into it, especially since I:

Decided the above board was just too big and too much, and I was worrying more about how things were working vs. the actual music, so I did a mental inventory on the pedals I use, and am back to this. Everything I need for what I do:

I use a wah, distortion modeler (DM4) and delay... Not much, but more than enough... The modeling stuff isn't the greatest when it comes to tone and stuff, but it definitely scales down the size of the board... I get 3 wah's, 16 distortion pedals, and a bunch of delays with tap tempo built in... I'm probably gonna get a Sonic Stomp and maybe a OctoStomp (both from BBE) to clean up the sound...

Welcome, guys. COAH, what are the blonde and the liverpool? And GW83, how many feet does it take to use 3 wahs?

www.rondomusic.com also has a lot of cases. I don't know about a bag but if you are looking for a box it's the cheapest place I know. Besides the no name stuff on the bay.

Tech 21 Sansamp 'direct-to-desk' pedals. Blonde = Fender, Liverpool = Vox.

My simple setup: Vox wah>TU-2>Ernie Ball Jr Vol>Tuna Melt>Menatone TBIAC>Menatone WBM>DD-20>Behringer Red DI w/4x12 sim>desk.

Complicated 'two-channel' clean/dirty layered setup:
Neck PU>Tuna Melt>Menatone WMB>DD-20 input A
Bridge PU>Wah>Tuner>Vol>Menatone TBIAC>univibe>DD-20 input B

Both outputs summed at the same Behringer DI w/sim direct to desk.

I would not recommend George Ls if you will be plugging and unplugging cables. They are great for a pedal board where everything is mounted down. But I've heard too many people complain about loose connections from plugging and unplugging them. I had an issue with this myself.

Simple these days.....Retro-Sonic Compressor---(Timmy or NOC3 Puredrive or Copperhead)---R-S Chorus---R-S Analog Delay---Turbo Tuner. George L's premade, all of a Pedaltrain Mini. Supplemented by volume and tone controls on the guitar, and all the controls on an Allen 1x12 Old Flame or 2x12 Tone Savor.
