Can't believe this hasn't been done--What gear for church?

I plug my designer series tele into a stage 100 with dsp. Then from XLR out to the board

Also, I bring a telecoustic that the acoustic guy likes to use. He plugs it into an acoustasonic 30. You'd be surprised how good that actually sounds, a whole lot better than the $260 I paid for it.

Worship Gear

My electric rig is my modded MIM Tele -> modded Boss DS-1 -> Boss TU12 tuner -> Volume pedal -> Art tube preamp -> Fender M80 SS 1X12 combo.

My acoustic rig is my Seagull S6 -> Trace Elliot TAP1 preamp -> Fender M80.

The Trace Elliot acoustic guitar preamp is the best $50 I ever spent.

My gig bag contains spare cables, batteries, strings, pens, pencils, high-lighter, anti-static spray, picks, a hollow handle screwdriver with 8 different tips, string winder, a polishing cloth, granola bars, scrunchies and home made guitar slides.

gear

MIM Tele (soon to have Lawrence 280/290s) into Rat into
DG-Stomp into Morley A/B
Fender Catalina acoustic with SD Woody XL built in or Fender
mandolin into Boss AD-3 preamp into Morley A/B

or if I play acoustic and mando I'll go Morley into AD-3

I've done all three before but I try to avoid it.

Sometimes I run the acoustic through the Rat to get a nice
acoustic grit sound.

Morley then goes to the board, or in the other worship band I play
with that does smaller gigs into a Roland GC-405 amp.

I'll probably get the foot pedal for the Stomp so I can have volume
and Wah

Cheers
Matt

Tele copy or JLV Strat or Gibson 57 RI LP into a modded 2x6V6 Champ, or a '63 Vibroverb repro. Effects are a Nobles ODR1, TC Elec chorus, sometimes a Zoom 1010 pedal but very few usable tones in there. SM57 miked into the board. For acoustic I use a '73 Gibson J55 miced with an SM81 into the board. For bass a Lakland Skyline 55-01 into an Ampeg B3 combo, DI to the board. The house system works really well, and we have some great sound people. Might try some delay effects, and also sometimes get out the Dunlop wah for funky gospel tunes. The slide seems to wake people up too.....

Fairly simple

I play a Jay Turser JT-LT Custom Telecaster.

Effects are: Carvin Wah, DanElectro phaser, Vibrato, Compressor, and Reverb (Igot the Dan-O ToneFreak pak for $50.00, and outta seven pedals in the pak, these are the ones I use!).

My amp is a Pignose G40V, all tube valve state amp. It's mic'd thru the house.

I know it aint top dollar stuff, but I've gotten more compliments on my tone/sound than I ever have with any other rig that I've played! This set-up allows me to play crystal clear clean, to a really nice blues-rock overdrive sound (my fave!).

On my wish list: A volume pedal, and maybe a cordless system. I' wanna try a Fat-Boost, or a Ibanez Tube Screamer; the Dan-O compressor is OK, but its got a lil hiss to it that bugs me some.

Hey, PraiseCaster, how do you like that Pignose G40? I'd like to hear more about it. Is it stock? Does it really sound like a Tweed Bassman?

RE: DADGAD's Pignose Question

Well, I can definitely say it puts a big :D on my face!
It definitely does have some Fender Bassman Tone too it, but the stock 10" speaker, while not horrible, cuts into the headroom a bit, and makes feel a bit thin. I think a 10" Weber, or Celestion would be a quick, and sure fire cure! I've heard of one or two others that have complained about the stock Chinese tubes bein a lil noisy, but I guess I must have gotten the non-noisy variety, cause the only noise I hear is the 60 cycle type hum my Tele puts out!

But, since my funds are limited, and I cant afford a new Weber or Celestion, I'm puttin together a 1x12" Combo amp, out of an old Carvin 2x12 speaker box, an EV-12 speaker, out of an old Mesa Boogie Cabinet, and My Pignose! I've already played it thru a seperate cab, and it sounded sweeeeet!!!!

I've had this lil amp now for about 4-5 months now (I think?), and it so far I'm not regretting shelling out the $200.00 I paid for it brand new! And I've played it in a few of different venues, and it hasnt let me down. Low volume, or Crankin it up with the big boy's, it keeps pace and sounds great.

Matter of fact, it's impressed a few guitarists out their. I went to a lil blues Jam that another TDPRIr hosted out in Garden Grove, CA. This one gentleman I was playing next too asked me if he could play thru my amp, while I took a breather. I had no problem with that. Now he was playin thru his black face Princeton (and he was ravin about it), but my lil Pignose pretty much blew him away! He even put a nice post out (on the old TDPRI page) about how it outshined his Princeton

I would recomend this amp to any one, as long as they understand, theres no channel switching, cause this is a Class A tube amp with only one channel! If you can deal with that, YOU WILL LOVE THIS LIL AMP

$200 new? That sounds like a great deal! FWIW, they aren't really class A, just a marketting term in this case (same w/ most other amps that claim to be class A).

I'm just an electric guy, and have been using a mic'd Princeton Reverb for about 5 years, but recently picked up a sealed single 12 Mesa cab w/ Vintage 30, so I've been experimenting. We play at an excruciatingly low stage volume, I have the amp/speaker in front of me tilted back pointed right at my mug. My thought is that w/ the sealed cab, not as much sound would be spreading around the stage. I've used a Marshall 20 w/ it with nice results, and may try it with a reissue JTM45. Half the fun of playing is deciding which guitars and pedals to use. I usually use a Rat to get over the top, but also have an Ibanez SD-9, an ancient germanium FuzzFace and a rusky Big Muff. For overdrive I have a Boss OD-1, an 808 modded SD-1 and a Prescription Dual Tone. I use an Ibanez analog delay, either an AD-9, or a Delay Champ from the 10 series, that is on 90% of the time like most use reverb, 3 quick fading repeats makes for a very spacious sound. I don't use chorus very often, but have a Boss CE-2, CE-1 (the big one) and an old DOD mini-chorus. I use a Voodoo Labs Microvibe quite a bit. Have a variety of wahs, but it usually comes down to a Sound City Wah Face or an Italian Vox 846. Sometimes I run a seperate line form the "dry-out" of the echo into all the modulation efx, then into a volume pedal and into the second input of the amp. This works very nicely, you can add as much wetness as you like with the volume pedal. For guitars, our new director keeps asking for "bite", so the parts Tele has been getting the most use of late, but I also use a '74 Strat (horrible see through brown, super heavy), a parts Strat, and an early '70s LP Standard.

Hey Tim, you said: "Half the fun of playing is deciding which guitars and pedals to use."
That is what usually causes me more problems than anything else. When I had one guitar and one amp and a couple of effects to fit in the gig bag, it was a no-brainer what to bring. Now I have to think about which guitar would sound best, what amp would work, and what effects, etc..... Oh to be simple again.....

OT - Hey, PraiseCaster....

I picked up a G40 and love it! It's sounds great for worship and is lighter than my old SS amp. The 10" spkr doesn't have a lot of low end but, that's what bass players are for. Right?

Aint it amazing.....

....how much sound actually comes outta a small package like that Pignose G40V?!

I'm glad to hear you like it! It is a great value considering the cost, and that all tube sound!

Yeah I really like that lil amp, and I'm modifying mine too! I had hooked up an EV12 speaker (out of a Mesa Boogie Cabinet) in a lil 1x12" box, and it sounded great! A lot fuller sounding, and as I like to say, seems like its able to "breathe" now.

But, I then started playin around, and hooked up both the lil 10" pignose speaker, and the EV12, well, all I can say is, , I was blown away! that was the exact sound I was lookin for! Not "close", no EXACT! So now my project is building a Pignose Custom 1-10"x1-12" Twin Combo Amp!

When I complete it, all post pics!

Simple...

'95 Relic Nocaster --> Barber Tone Press --> '68 Princeton on about "7".

Sometimes I use my Hamer Studio w/Antiquities and sometimes the Tone Press picks up the radio during the sermon so I have to turn it off :) .
